Summary

Full-time Groundskeeper is responsible for supporting the overall upkeep and maintenance practices for the playing field and surrounding landscape areas.  This position is responsible for supporting the effort to provide a field that complies with the specifications, high quality and safety standards, set forth by Major League Baseball, the Houston Astros, and the Director of Field Operations.

 

Responsibilities

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Assist with all day-to-day activities that are required of maintaining a field at a professional level. This will include but is not limited to: accurate fertilizer applications, well versed and experienced in maintaining all aspects of infield skinned and clay area surfaces.
  • Assist and supervise for all non-gameday field activities.  This will include, but is not limited to: concerts, corporate sponsorship events, community relation outreach programs, postgame concerts, as well as high school and college games.
  • Responsible for assisting in maintenance of all equipment in order to extend the useful life.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of essential turfgrass cultural practices such as aerification, topdressing, sodding, and seeding.
  • Experience and knowledge of basic irrigation repairs along with small engine maintenance.
  • Background in managing sports turf at a professional venue/facility.
  • Possess a strong ability to problem solve
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and/or frequently deal with rapidly changing work schedule and environmental conditions throughout shift.
  • Must have superb attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.



Work Environment

This job operates in a stadium setting. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment.  This job will be expected to work indoor and outdoor in moderate weather conditions.

 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be required to carry and move equipment up to 50 lbs. Ability to use/operate typical grounds keeping hand tools, implements, and power tools on a regular basis, for long periods of time.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including; extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

 

Travel

Travel is not expected in this role.
