About the Joliet Slammers:

The Joliet Slammers are Joliet’s hometown professional baseball team, competing in the Frontier League — a Partner League of Major League Baseball. Position Summary:

The Joliet Slammers are seeking Baseball Analytics Interns for the 2026 season to support our Baseball Research & Analytics team. In this role, you will apply and develop your data science skills to help answer real baseball questions, working directly with Baseball Operations staff in a fast-paced, collaborative front office environment.Interns will typically focus on one major analytics project at a time, receiving close mentorship and ample room for exploration, model development, and personal growth. You’ll work daily from the ballpark, support analytical needs across departments, and gain invaluable exposure to scouting, player evaluation, and modern baseball decision-making.

This internship is a major pathway into professional baseball. Many former Slammers interns have gone on to secure full-time positions with MLB-affiliated clubs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

-Build statistical models in R (or similar languages) to answer a primary baseball research question under the guidance of a Baseball R&D staff member

-Communicate findings through written reports, presentations, dashboards, and informal conversations

-Develop clear, informative data visualizations for internal analysis, automated reporting, or internal applications

-Collaborate with analytics, scouting, and baseball operations staff to support player evaluation and decision-making

-Assist with additional baseball operations duties during home games as needed


Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

-Education & Experience

-Experience analyzing datasets and building statistical models using R, Python, or similar tools

-Pursuing or holding an undergraduate/graduate degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field

-Authorized to work in the United States

-Willingness to relocate to Joliet, IL for the majority of the baseball season



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-Ability to complete end-to-end statistical modeling projects

-Ability to accept and apply feedback while collaborating in a team setting

-Eagerness to learn new skills related to programming, visualization, and advanced analytics

-Strong passion for baseball and interest in baseball operations career paths

-Working knowledge of sabermetrics and modern baseball evaluation concepts

-Demonstrated personal qualities aligned with a high-performing team: positive energy, humility, curiosity, integrity, accountability, competitiveness, and a commitment to continuous improvement


Physical & Environmental Requirements:

-Ability to work long hours during the season (including nights/weekends)

-Must attend all home games and assist with baseball operations duties as needed
