DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Player Development department is dedicated to fostering the comprehensive growth of our minor league players. Our mission is to excel in optimizing talent and skill development while aligning with player and team objectives. Our approach involves the creation of world class player programs and efficiently scaling them across our player pool. Collaborating closely with baseball analytics, performance, and medical, we establish effective frameworks for experimentation and learning. Additionally, we work closely with Amateur Scouting, International Scouting, and Pro Scouting to ensure seamless player transitions into the Red Sox organization.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Hitting Coach will work closely with the Hitting Coach, the Director of Hitting Development, and other essential staff to help implement and track player-specific offensive development plans. This is a hands-on, uniformed position that supports the daily operations related to improving player performance. We are seeking someone who is organized, detail-oriented, curious, and data-driven, with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. The candidate should also be comfortable in a fast-paced environment, working closely with players, coaches, and other departments to ensure player success.
This position will be based out of Fort Myers, Florida during Minor League Spring Training, then based out of an assigned minor-league affiliate for the duration of the competitive season. Employment will begin in February 2026 and run through September 2026. Travel to all away games is required. Occasional travel may be required to other Red Sox affiliates, staff events, and educational opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Hitting Coach and Roving Hitting Instructor with creating and executing daily hitting practice plans.
- Coordinate daily schedules with the Hitting Coach to ensure efficient use of time.
- Help prepare and deliver advanced reports and game plans to hitters.
- Operate hitting analysis tools such as Blast Motion, HitTrax, Trajekt, and internal software.
- Support the hitting portion of Player Performance Meetings, tracking and reporting on hitters’ goal progress.
- Maintain communication with the Hitting Development team to streamline transitions for players promoted or demoted.
COMPETENCIES:
- Evaluate and prescribe best-in-class drills to address deficiencies in each individual player.
- Able to develop programming towards organizationally defined KPI’s.
- Understanding of how to construct training environments that put position players in a position to improve skill and/or talent.
- Able to cultivate trust and player buy-in.
- Willing and able to use technology to maximize the effectiveness of programming.
- Able to develop key takeaways from large amounts of data to identify high leverage areas of development for each player.
