Position:  The Somerset Patriots, the AA affiliate of the NY Yankees, have summer internships available on the grounds crew for 2026 to help with maintaining the playing field and grounds at TD Bank Ballpark.  This position is open to college students or recent graduates studying turf management, sports management or related majors.  Ideal candidates should have an interest in turf management or horticulture and looking to begin a career in the sports turf industry.  No experience is necessary provided you are willing to learn and work hard.  Applications can be submitted through the link provided or by emailing resume and cover letter to the head groundskeeper through the team's website.  Interviews will be conducted in person at TD Bank Ballpark.

Compensation:  $15.92 / hr and college credit if applicable.

Schedule:  The internship runs May-August with a flexible start / end date for students.  Interns will gain experience working both game days and non-game days including nights, weekends, and some holidays depending on the game schedule.  Non-game day hours are generally M-F 8:30am-4:30pm and game days use rotating shifts to maintain predictable hours.  Shift #1 is 8:30am-3:45pm and shift #2 is 3:15pm-10:30pm.  Hours subject to change based on game times and weather conditions.  Students will average 40 hrs per week and days off are provided after each homestand.  Vacation time is permitted and encouraged when the team is on the road.
 
Job Description:  Assist with maintaining a professional baseball field to MLB standards as well as upkeep of surrounding grounds including infield dirt and clay work, logo painting, landscape maintenance, parking lot clean up, set up for batting practice, game prep (dragging, lining, watering), post-game field / dugout cleanup, seeding, sodding, aeration and other duties as assigned.  Training is provided on grounds equipment including mowers, infield pro, trimmers, edgers, blowers, paint machines, and utility vehicles.  Interns must be able to work outside in any weather condition and will assist with tarping the field in inclement weather.
