Job Summary
The Richmond Flying Squirrels are looking for enthusiastic and energetic performers to join our team of part-time mascots and entertain fans during home games and numerous community events. Mascot performers are brand ambassadors who play an integral role in representing and facilitating family FUNN!
Key Responsibilities
- Perform as the team mascot at home games and a variety of non-game events, representing the organization in a positive, engaging, and energetic manner.
- Collaborate with the Mascot and Entertainment Manager to develop and execute creative skits, in-game routines, and costume concepts that enhance fan engagement.
- Consistently follow established character guidelines and maintain character integrity while in costume to ensure brand and performance consistency.
- Demonstrate flexibility by serving as a mascot handler when not scheduled to perform in costume, assisting with logistics, crowd interaction, and performance support.
- Properly maintain, clean, and care for all mascot costumes, props, and related equipment to ensure safety, appearance, and longevity.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Prior mascot experience preferred; previous performance experience (dance, acting, or similar) strongly preferred.
- Availability and flexibility to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
- Outgoing, fan-focused personality with a natural ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children, staff members, and the general public.
- Strong reliability and punctuality, with the ability to arrive on time and fully prepared for all scheduled appearances.
- Creative, ambitious, and energetic with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Physically capable of performing in costume for extended periods; must possess high energy, stamina, and overall physical fitness.
Physical Demands
- Ability to maintain good physical condition and withstand the physical demands of performing in a mascot costume, including prolonged activity in varying weather conditions.
- Demonstrated ability to perform as a non-speaking, animated character using body language, gestures, and movement to engage audiences.
- Capacity to work collaboratively as a team player alongside full-time and part-time staff in fast-paced, live-event environments.
- Must meet specific height requirements to properly fit existing mascot costumes (approximately 5’8”–6’0” or 5’2”–5’7”).
