Job Summary
The Richmond Flying Squirrels are seeking a motivated and dependable Field Operations Crew Lead to help maintain the playing surface and facilities at CarMax Park. This position serves as a leader on the field operations team, assisting with field preparation, turf and dirt maintenance, and equipment operation for games and events, while also guiding staff and supporting the overall upkeep of the grounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the field operations team with all game day preparations, including lining, dragging, and watering the field to ensure a professional, game-ready surface.
- Perform post-game maintenance of the playing surface, including infield dirt repair, mound and plate preparation, turf care, and moisture management.
- Assist with field setup and maintenance for VCU games and special events as assigned.
- Maintain and care for the playing surface at CarMax Park on non-game days to ensure consistent quality and safety standards.
- Lead hourly gameday staff to ensure smooth and efficient execution of game day field protocols.
- Safely operate and maintain field equipment such as mowers, tractors, blowers, utility carts, and infield drags.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and provide guidance and training to support staff as needed.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe maintenance shop and equipment area.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Highly motivated, positive team player with the ability to perform effectively under pressure and in fast-paced environments.
- Flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and summer holidays as needed.
- Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs. or more and standing for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, and humidity.
- Experience with small engine and equipment maintenance preferred.
- Previous Turf management education or experience preferred.
