Position Overview:
The Game Day Field Maintenance Staff position will assist in all aspects of maintaining the playing surface to a Major League Baseball standard. The majority of this work is outdoors and consists of manual labor. Game day hours will be included and will vary based upon the Hub City Spartanburgers schedule and the College and High School game schedule. Outside events can also be included, such as concerts, festivals, youth & amateur baseball, etc. Incumbents are expected to possess the necessary skills to carry out daily tasks while working both independently and with others on a professional baseball field, while representing the Hub City Spartanburgers and Minor League Baseball to the highest standards.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain a safe, playable surface for all athletes that use the field.
- All aspects of daily infield skin maintenance and repair including raking, grooming, dragging, edging and moisture management.
- Mound and Plate repair and maintenance including raking, tamping, working with specialty packing clays, moisture management.
- Warning track maintenance and repair including raking, grooming, dragging, edging and moisture management.
- Assist in many aspects of turf grass maintenance including mowing, fertilization, topdressing and aeration.
- Irrigation repair.
- Assisting with tarp pulls.
- Set up/Break down of batting practice equipment.
- Daily equipment care, cleaning and maintenance.
- Operate sports turf equipment in a safe manner.
- Work with outside event personnel for event set up and execution while protecting the playing surface.
- Must be able to work well with the Field Operations Assistant and Director of Field Operations to execute all functions of the grounds department.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds repetitively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, active environment.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Required to work, day, nights and weekends as needed.
