Summary
The Hub City Spartanburgers are looking for motivated, focused and driven individuals to help us fill our Game Day Baseball Operations roles, including Official Scorer, Stringer, Scoreboard Operator and Field Time Coordinator. Successful candidates will have strong baseball knowledge and past experience is preferred. The individual roles are detailed below.
Official Scorer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Pay close attention to the ongoing baseball game to provide accurate data input for the live feed distributed through MiLB.com and the MiLB First Pitch app.
- Accurately mark plays as they occur, including pitches, batted balls and outcomes, outs, and all other in-game elements.
- Collaborate closely with other members of the baseball operations department within the gameday Press Box environment, including the Stringer, Field Time Coordinator, Sr. Manager of Marketing, and others.
- Communicate issues effectively with peers and supervisors to provide accurate and professional service to the club's gameday staff.
- Collect rosters and other applicable information and be set up at assigned seat in press box before first pitch.
- Log information for the entire game; monitoring the system and making any changes throughout the game (i.e., roster changes, defensive substitutions, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Ability to work a minimum of 3 games per homestand. Long hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Must be a team player, willing and able to learn new concepts and processes.
- Must have exceptional and demonstrable knowledge of baseball and how to score a baseball game.
- Previous experience (including press box exposure) with a professional or college sports team, preferably baseball.
- Maintain professionalism and decorum during the game, including the ability to remain unbiased in the operation of the pitch clock and stringer data feed.
- Communicate effectively with other gameday staff including umpires.
- Sit and/or stand for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Remain attentive to the game for its entire duration.
Stringer
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Double-check and verify all pre-game information: rosters, umpires, weather conditions, etc.
- During the game, enter the results of every pitch and game event (plays, substitutions, etc.) using MLB’s proprietary software and coding language.
- Work closely with MLB’s game-night support staff (via Slack) to ensure proper scoring of all game events and accuracy of data.
- Validate all stats and data in scoring software against the official box score provided by the Official Scorer.
- After the game, enter all post-game information and validate all stats and data in scoring software in cooperation with the Official Scorer.
- Other situation-specific tasks as required by MLB Data Operations.
Requirements:
- Must have exceptional and demonstrable knowledge of baseball and how to score a baseball game.
- Strong computer proficiency (Windows OS and Windows-based software) and the ability to quickly learn and operate new software.
- Previous experience (including press box exposure) with a professional or college sports team, preferably baseball.
- Regular availability to attend games in-person as required by the schedule, including weekdays, nights and weekends.
- Communicate effectively with other gameday staff.
- Sit and/or stand for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Remain attentive to the game for its entire duration.
Scoreboard Operator
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- During the game, enter the results of every pitch and game event (plays, substitutions, etc.) into computer to display on stadium scoreboards.
- Work closely with Stringer and Official Scorer to ensure proper scoring of all game events and accuracy of data.

- Strong computer proficiency (Windows OS and Windows-based software) and the ability to quickly learn and operate new software.
- Previous experience (including press box exposure) with a professional or college sports team, preferably baseball.
- Regular availability to attend games in-person as required by the schedule, including weekdays, nights and weekends.
- Communicate effectively with other gameday staff.
- Sit and/or stand for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Remain attentive to the game for its entire duration.
Field Time Coordinator
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for operating the pace of game clock in accordance with the Pace of Game Regulations.
- After the game, the FTC must submit the Pace of Game Report to the Commissioner’s Office.
- Collaborate closely with other members of the baseball operations department within the gameday Press Box environment, including the Official Scorer, Stringer, Sr. Manager of Marketing, and others.
- Be the point-of-contact for the umpires to the press box.
Requirements:
- Intermediate knowledge of baseball preferred.
- Strong computer proficiency.
- Previous experience (including press box exposure) with a professional or college sports team, preferably baseball.
- Regular availability to attend games in-person as required by the schedule, including weekdays, nights and weekends.
- Sit and/or stand for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Remain attentive to the game for its entire duration.
