Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct evaluations and administer treatment for injured players and staff members at the Salt River Complex and affiliate sites.
- Provide pre-activity and post-activity treatment for players and staff in collaboration with athletic trainers and medical staff.
- Design and implement individualized rehabilitation programs using scientific physical therapy principles.
- Serve as the primary lead on treatment and return-to-play protocols for players undergoing extended rehabilitation.
- Deliver prescribed physical therapy treatments to address musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, aiming to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability.
- Perform assessments of strength, motor development, functional activity, and sensory perception; document findings and update treatment plans accordingly.
- Administer manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise, and modalities (e.g., hydrotherapy, ultrasound, electrical stimulation).
- Instruct and motivate patients in safe execution of therapeutic exercises, functional activities, and proper use of assistive devices.
- Monitor and document patient progress through EMR systems, ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
- Collaborate with physicians, trainers, and performance staff to coordinate care and ensure holistic support for each athlete.
- Provide off-program treatment of injured players as assigned.
- Support the medical program with additional responsibilities as required, including event coverage and organizational projects.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professional presence during scheduled shifts.
- Assist in performance department initiatives, including weight room protocols and strength-training support.
- Coordinate medical logistics such as scheduling and transporting players/staff for diagnostic imaging and physician appointments.
- Ensure training and weight room facilities remain clean, safe, and organized.
- Contribute to continuing education efforts by identifying and recommending professional development opportunities for the sports medicine team.
Job Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited U.S. Physical Therapy program (or equivalent) with an advanced degree in Physical Therapy. Board-Certified Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) or Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) designation is highly desirable.
- Current physical therapy license in good standing (or eligibility for state certification).
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience in an orthopedic or sports rehabilitation setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in injury management, movement optimization, pain management, and safe return-to-play protocols.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
- Dry Needling, Graston, or Manual Therapy certification preferred.
- Ongoing commitment to continuing education in sports medicine and rehabilitation.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and organizational skills.
Working Conditions & Schedule
- Primary work location: Salt River Complex, with responsibilities extending to surrounding facilities as required.
- Physical requirements include:
- Ability to move, lift, or transfer patients (up to 100 lbs).
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Willingness to work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
- Work schedule is variable based on program operations, requiring flexibility for nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Position is year-round; vacation scheduling must be coordinated in advance during the off-season.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as team schedules may require.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Salary Range:
- The base annual salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 to $100,000. As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills, and any other factors the Colorado Rockies consider relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
