Position Summary

The Manager of Strategic Communications is responsible for guiding and aligning the Colorado Rockies’ organizational voice, messaging, and identity across all business departments and public-facing platforms. This role combines elements of business communications, strategic storytelling, and brand stewardship. They will serve as a cross-functional liaison, ensuring consistency in how the Rockies brand is represented—visually, verbally, and culturally, through every business campaign, initiative, and communication.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Vice President in executing cohesive communications plans that reflect the organization’s baseball, business, and brand messaging.
  • Lead the development of strategic messaging for non-baseball initiatives (e.g., ticketing, sponsorship, community impact, events).
  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans for campaigns and brand storytelling efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align messaging and lead coordinated cross-functional communications, supporting departments through organizational change.
  • Draft and edit press releases, talking points, and other external communications tied to business priorities.
  • Identify and shape organizational stories that reinforce brand values and engage fans, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with baseball communications to ensure consistent messaging across baseball and business initiatives.
  • Serve as the internal brand guardian, ensuring all communications and creative outputs align with brand standards and tone.
  • Act as the primary communications and branding liaison across all departments, ensuring consistency in voice, visuals, and messaging.
  • Partner with marketing, digital, sponsorship, community, and ticketing teams to align messaging and streamline execution.
  • Supervise assigned communications staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and responsiveness.
  • Provide editorial guidance and content support to internal team members as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media, including traditional press and emerging outlets.
  • Serve as a core member of the crisis communications team, contributing to real-time messaging, internal guidance, and holding statements during sensitive situations.

 

Other Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist with organizational events, including offseason activities and in-season promotions, coordinating communications and logistics as needed.
  • Contribute to social media content creation and manage ongoing story development, ensuring that content aligns with current team happenings and branding.
  • Engage with various departments, such as Marketing and Community Relations, to ensure cohesive messaging and support for internal initiatives.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Currently an individual contributor, may assume leadership responsibilities as the function evolves.

 

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, sports management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5-9 years of experience in media relations or communications, preferably within professional sports.
  • Strong understanding of the local, national and international media landscape.
  • Strong writing and editing skills; proficiency in platforms and tools like Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Excel, and Word; ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Proven ability to lead direct reports and manage projects on a deadline.
  • Demonstrates high standards of integrity, work ethic, and interpersonal skills.

 

Work Schedule

  • Standard business hours with flexibility for nights, weekends, and event coverage.
  • On-site presence required during major campaigns, events, or home games tied to business activations.
  • This is a full-time in office role

 

Physical Job Requirements

  • This role operates in a professional office and stadium environment. Occasional exposure to crowd noise, outdoor weather conditions, and extended hours during homestands, promotional events, or special functions may be required.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (e.g., sitting at a desk, attending meetings).
  • Occasionally moves about the office, stadium, and event spaces to access equipment, vendors, and staff.
  • Frequently communicates via phone, video conference, and in person; must be able to exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally (e.g., promotional materials, laptop bag).

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual Salary Range: $65,000 - $80,000. This is a regular-status, full-time, Exempt position.
  • As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, job-related skills, and any other factors the Colorado Rockies consider relevant to the hiring decision for this position.
