OUR STORY
THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE is a charter member of Major League Baseball’s National League. Since 1876, the team has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. Known for its ivy-covered outfield walls, hand-operated scoreboard and famous Marquee sign, iconic Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916, making it the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.

HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE:
This exciting new position will help the Chicago Cubs maximize growth from the current fanbase as well as attract new customers to the team and to Wrigley Field. Reporting to the SVP of Marketing, they’ll guide the marketing strategy and activation across paid and owned channels, including digital advertising, social media, email, website, mobile app, and AI tools. The Director is accountable for delivering a demand generation strategy while building the Cubs brand. They’ll leverage user journeys and personalization at scale to drive growth and ROAS. It requires a leader who jumps on new opportunities, anticipates and addresses the needs of the business, and motivates a high performing team to do their best work. This individual will serve as an internal thought leader in digital marketing and will help position the Cubs as best-in-class digital sellers. A proven track record of delivering on efficient revenue growth and ROAS KPI’s is a requirement for consideration.

THE DAY-TO-DAY:
  • Lead growth marketing capabilities across paid and owned channels; creating and managing a roadmap that drives consumer demand, leads to higher conversions and improves ROAS
  • Steward the creation and execution of marketing plans that drive customer acquisition, reduce churn, improve retention, and increase frequency of purchase
  • Partner with Analytics team to identify and prioritize consumers with the highest potential to re-engage, repeat or purchase additional offerings (up/cross-sell) and allocate Marketing resources to grow their lifetime value
  • Integrating lead capture opportunities throughout the digital experience
  • Develop and implement social commerce strategies that drive online sales within key platforms
  • Oversee performance tracking and calibration on a daily basis, using it to inform real time campaign optimizations and budget allocations
  • Partner with Analytics team to  build an omni-channel testing framework that’s rooted in experimentation, validating hypotheses, and scaling effective messaging
  • Collaborate with MLB’s Performance Marketing team to effectively measure the results of the Cubs marketing campaigns and orchestrate the adoption of new marketing technologies
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and digital marketing innovations; providing thought leadership to the Marketing team, senior management and other stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development of the Marketing team’s annual goals & KPI’s
  • Guide the creation of an annual budget for paid marketing channels and manage that budget in a disciplined fashion throughout the year
  • Formalize the use of project management tools and enforce behaviors within the team
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
  • 7+ years of developing and executing marketing strategies that drive sales conversion, enhance customer loyalty and deliver strong ROAS
  • Deep knowledge of performance marketing and marketing automation processes
  • Experience driving full-funnel campaigns across a range of paid and owned channels; with a strong emphasis on digital
  • Track record of using segmentation and targeting strategies to maximize lifetime value from large customer databases
  • Knows how to develop highly engaging creative campaigns that align with business objectives
  • Excellent campaign management skills, with the ability to guide multi-channel efforts from development through execution while adhering to timelines and budgets
  • Mindset of experimentation with strong background of testing and optimization
  • Experienced people manager with a track record of leading high performing marketing teams
  • Familiarity with a variety of martech tools such as Salesforce, Adobe, Pardot, and Conversica is strongly preferred
  • Experience in professional sports, live entertainment or a related field is preferred but not required
  • Must be comfortable working in a highly collaborative, fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
  • This position is based out of the Cubs offices in Chicago; remote work is not an option
