Job Purpose:

The Chicago White Sox are seeking a Biomechanics Intern to assist the Sports Science staff with the implementation of new and existing biomechanics resources. In this role, you will support the setup, deployment, and troubleshooting of biomechanics technology, communicate key insights to the Sport Performance Staff, and assist with data collection, entry, and quality control of biomechanics data. You will gain hands-on experience collecting and analyzing biomechanics data from both in-game and lab-based settings and learn to apply insights from biomechanics information to improve player performance. 

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
·       Assist with biomechanical assessments, including setup, breakdown, and maintenance of biomechanics technology.
·       Utilize internal tools and existing software to analyze and communicate key findings and reports from biomechanical data to key stakeholders across the Sports Performance and Coaching staff in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Participate in the organization, planning, and implementation of any beta-testing projects within the biomechanics domain.
  • Support ongoing research projects and other Applied Sports Science initiatives as needed. 
  • Keep up to date on current baseball and biomechanics research.
 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

·       Currently pursuing or recently completed a graduate degree in biomechanics or closely related field: additional coursework in motor control/learning, computer science, and advanced statistics a plus.
·       Demonstrated experience conducting biomechanical assessments using motion capture, force plates, and EMG; research and/or applied experience within sport preferred.
·       Proficient knowledge of baseball operations and movement skills.

·       Previous experience collecting and working with large databases of optical motion capture data (MAC/Optitrak/Vicon/HawkEye/KinaTrax/Bertec/AMTI).

·       Excellent track record of visualizing biomechanics datasets in novel ways.

·       Experience with common coding and database software (Python, R, Matlab, SQL) a plus. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all aspects of baseball operations, scouting, and player development staff.

Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in the following: interior/office work environment, athletic fields, workout facility and/or in a medical care facility.
  • Hours may include nights, weekends and holidays      
 

Compensation:

·       $18.00 per hour
