In-person start date: Approximately March 16, 2026 (willing to be flexible for the right candidate, but must be able to begin no later than March 23, 2026). Potentially some remote work required prior to in-person start date.
End date:  September 18, 2026 or end-of-season if before.
Compensation: TBD, either monthly stipend or hourly rate. Host family housing provided. 

The Fredericksburg Nationals, Carolina League affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are seeking a Broadcasting and Media Relations Assistant.  This person will serve as the no. 2 broadcaster during all FredNat home games and select road games and will contribute to day-to-day media relations and writing operations. This position is designed for a recent college graduate or a college student with schedule flexibility looking for an entry-level broadcasting position. 

Responsibilities:
Broadcasting: 
  • Play-by-play for 3-4 innings during 66 FredNat home games and select road games. Must be available for all home games. 
  • Assist with soundboard and commercial breaks during games. 
  • Produce and edit audio and video elements, including highlights, interviews, & commercials.
  • Host in-stadium pregame show, executing sponsorship fulfillment. Conduct in-game broadcast interviews with sponsors as well. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
Writing: 
  • Writing game recaps and feature stories for the FredNats' program and articles for the FredNats' website. 
  • Help in writing press releases for roster moves and various club news. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Media Relations: 
  • Work with Broadcasting and Media Relations Manager on composing daily game notes for media distribution. 
  • Assist with all media relations efforts including issuing press releases, accommodating interview requests, administering media credentials, as well as other media information and related duties.
  • Assist with maintenance of Virginia Credit Union Stadium press box.
  • Assist with social media content, specifically in-game posts about baseball. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Candidates should: 
  • Hold a vast, working knowledge of the game of baseball in several different aspects.
  • Be willing to work with the entire front office to assist in the day-to-day operation of the FredNats, not just media relations/broadcasting. 
  • Possess strong writing and verbal skills. 
  • Have experience with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Audition) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Be willing to learn, work hard, handle multiple projects at once and maintain a professional, respectful attitude. 
  • Willfully assist in physical tasks such as pulling tarp during rain delays or before/after games.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
