About Pelicans Ballpark

Pelicans Ballpark is a year-round entertainment venue and home to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class-A Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Pelicans Ballpark is in Myrtle Beach, SC less than a mile from the beach. The ballpark hosts 66 Pelicans game each year in addition to numerous other events including concerts, baseball/softball games, the Myrtle Beach Marathon, community events and more.

The Pelicans are entering their 27th season in Myrtle Beach.  The team played its first season in 1999 and recently signed a new 30-year lease with the City of Myrtle Beach, securing their future in Pelicans Ballpark for decades to come.

Position Description

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are hiring a seasonal position to assist in the marketing department in both print/digital and grassroots efforts. Additionally, this position will support the team's sales department with ticket packages and sponsorship activations.  This position will assist the Partnership Services Coordinator in the execution of sponsorship elements and coordinate across all departments including but not limited to tickets, promotions, social media, and production.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the General Manager with print and advertising needs, including stadium graphics and flyers, sales collateral, website imagery, and more.
  • Assist with additional marketing elements as necessary such as email marketing, writing ad copy, ad design, press releases, and more.
  • Project Coordinator for the design and execution of the game day program.
  • Assist in management of website content (no prior web design skills required).
  • Assist the Partnership Services Coordinator with inventory tracking, collection of sponsorship materials, and activation of sponsorship elements across all mediums including but not limited to print, outdoor, social media activations, and more.
  • Aid the Assistant General Manager, Fan Engagement, in executing promotional and theme nights.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of non-traditional revenue and non-game day events as necessary.
  • Help organize and plan special events at the ballpark, such as luncheons, suite parties, and little league clinics.
  • Coordinate and activate community relations programs and events as needed.
  • Be a positive brand ambassador and represent the Pelicans and our partners in a professional manner at all times.
  • Assist with community, mascot, and player appearances both at the ballpark and in the community as needed.
  • Be available to help cover front desk phone calls and fan inquiries.
  • Assist with bat dog responsibilities.
  • Perform as mascots if necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
By the end of the season you will:

  • Understand the philosophy behind the Pelicans’ marketing strategy, brand look, and digital media activations
  • Understand, in-depth, the various interworking of departments that comprise a front office of a sports team
  • Understand the culture of the Pelicans' front office and how it leads to our success on and off the field
  • Add additional elements to your professional portfolio
  • Have gained valuable networking opportunities
  • Receive potential job placement assistance based on performance 
 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates are preferably college graduates who are looking to gain more experience within sports marketing. Other applicants will not be excluded 
  • Ability to start mid-January on a full-time basis. Exception may be made for a February start.
  • A strong interest in the sports industry 
  • Qualified candidates must possess superior organizational skills and be able to function in a fast-paced, multi-task setting
  • Ability to work with as others as well as independently
  • Ability to prioritize and handle simultaneous projects
  • Have a working knowledge of Adobe Master Collection, including but not limited to Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom. 
  • A wide range of majors are encouraged to apply, but most of our applicants are a part of marketing, business, recreation/ tourism and sport management majors.
  • Candidates should be able to perform physically demanding aspects of the job 
  • Candidates must be willing to dedicate 40-100 hours per week to their internship, including a majority of home games and ballpark events. 

Duration/Compensation

  • This is a seasonal position that will conclude in September.  Target start date mid-January.
  • Monthly Stipend
