About Pelicans Ballpark
Pelicans Ballpark is a year-round entertainment venue and home to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class-A Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. Pelicans Ballpark is in Myrtle Beach, SC less than a mile from the beach. The ballpark hosts 66 Pelicans game each year in addition to numerous other events including concerts, baseball/softball games, the Myrtle Beach Marathon, community events and more.

The Pelicans are currently in their 27th season in Myrtle Beach.  The team played its first season in 1999 and recently signed a new 30-year lease with the City of Myrtle Beach, securing their future in Pelicans Ballpark for decades to come.

Position Description
The Director – Performance Center Athletics is responsible for driving athletic related revenue, utilization, and community engagement through the organization’s indoor performance center while serving as the primary liaison to youth, select, and travel sport organizations throughout the Grand Strand Area – with a key focus on baseball and softball. This position will oversee membership sales, facility bookings, programming, and strategic partnerships that generate new athletic related business opportunities across ticket sales, field rentals, camps, showcases, and special events.

The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven sales professional with a passion for youth sports and business development who can create meaningful partnerships while maximizing the performance center's revenue potential.

Facility Description
The performance center, officially known as The Diamond, is a 9,380-square-foot premier batting cage and event space.  It’s designed for versatility and built for unforgettable moments.  While its primary function is designed for baseball/softball, the facility seamlessly adapts to host a variety of other athletic activities, as well as non-athletic events.  The facility houses 6 cages, all with vertically retractable netting, perfect for individual or team rentals.  The facility also has perimeter netting allowing all 6 cages to be raised and the full space to be used for various activations including but not limited to live BP, infield practice, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and more.

Performance Center: Athletic Operations & Revenue Generation
  • Lead all athletic related sales and business development efforts for the indoor performance center.
  • Drive membership sales for individual athletes, teams, coaches, and families.
  • Develop and execute strategies to increase facility utilization and recurring revenue.
  • Manage scheduling and booking of individual cage rentals, team practices, clinics, camps, showcases, tournaments, and special events.
  • Identify and pursue sponsorship and partnership opportunities tied to the performance center.

Youth Sports & Select Baseball/Softball Partnerships
  • Serve as the organization's primary contact for youth sports including but not limited to select, travel, and high school baseball/softball programs throughout the Grand Strand Area.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with league administrators, coaches, team directors, and baseball/softball influencers.
  • Develop partnership programs that connect youth sports – specifically youth baseball/softball organizations – to the team and Pelicans Ballpark
  • Expand participation in team nights, group outings, and youth baseball/softball-focused promotional events.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to increase awareness of the performance center and youth sports programming – all youth sports should be explored with a key focus on baseball/softball.

Ticket Sales & Business Development
  • Leverage youth sports relationships and Pelicans Ballpark facilities to generate group ticket sales and attendance.

Camps, Clinics & Showcases
  • Develop and oversee baseball/softball camps, clinics, and showcases while coordinating instructional programming and personnel.
  • Identify opportunities for new programming that attracts athletes and families year-round.

Community & Brand Engagement
  • Represent the organization at youth sports events, tournaments, league meetings, and community functions.
  • Act as a brand ambassador while creating positive experiences for athletes, coaches, and families.

Qualifications
1 or more of the following strongly preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Business, Marketing, or related field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in sports sales, youth sports management, business development, facility management, or related field.
  • Proven success in sales, partnership development, and relationship management.
  • Strong understanding of youth, select, and travel athletic landscapes.
 
Requirements
  • Must be well organized and have the ability to work with others.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Candidates should be able to perform physically demanding aspects of the job, such as the ability to stand, bend, and lift heavy equipment (30+ lbs.) for extended periods.
