The Delmarva Shorebirds are the Baltimore Orioles Single “A” affiliate located in Salisbury, Maryland.  The organization is owned and operated by 7th Inning Stretch, LP which is one of the leading sports ownership firms in the country. The Delmarva Shorebirds are recognized for providing fun family entertainment on the Delmarva Peninsula, with a market that covers the states of Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.  Our organization aims to consistently build a stronger community, furthering the careers of our employees, and creating an entertaining atmosphere both on and off the field.

Position: Part-Time Mascot Performer (Sherman The Shorebird)

This position will work under and report to: 
Assistant General Manager and Community Relations Manager
Position Overview:

The Mascot is a high-energy, outgoing individual who performs as Sherman the Shorebird at Delmarva Shorebirds home games, non-game day events at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, and community appearances throughout the Delmarva Peninsula. While in costume this position is responsible for engaging with fans, entertaining crowds, and participating in pregame activities and on-field promotions.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform as Sherman the Shorebird at Shorebirds home games.
  • Perform as the Sherman the Shorebird at community events such as non-profit events, schools, community events, and events held by Shorebirds’ sponsors.
  • Perform as the Sherman the Shorebird at various events held at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on non-game days.
  • Maintain the established character identity, movement style, energy level, and performance approach to ensure brand consistency.
  • Interact with fans before, during and after games, including taking photos and creating engaging moments throughout the ballpark while delivering exceptional customer service and positive fan interactions. 
  • Participate in on-field or in-stands skits, promotions, media opportunities, and photo moments.
  • Must always act as a Shorebirds brand ambassador when in costume.
  • Collaborate with the promotions and entertainment teams to execute in-game skits, videos, and theme nights.
  • Assist in developing new mascot routines, props, and crowd engagement ideas.
  • Oversee proper care, handling, and storage of costume pieces and accessories after each use.
 Qualifications: 
  • Previous experience in mascot performance, promotions, fan engagement, performing arts dance, athletics, or interactive entertainment preferred. 
  • Candidate would ideally be between 5’10 – 6’2 to be able to comfortably perform in the costume. 
  • Must be able to tolerate heat and other weather conditions well; required to move and perform, in costume, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have strong customer service skills, work well with children and perform under high stress levels.
  • Comfortable performing in large crowds and interacting with fans of all ages. 
  • Ability to communicate emotion, humor, and personality entirely non-verbally.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Valid driver’s license required.  
  • Must work well in a team environment

Work Hours:
Hours will vary according to the game and event schedule, which will include weekends and some holidays.
Must have availability to work most Delmarva Shorebirds home games and special events.
Compensation:
Hourly Position $15.00 to $20.00 per hour. Based on experience
