Position Summary
The Assistant Groundskeeper supports the daily maintenance, preparation, and presentation of the baseball field and surrounding grounds to ensure safe, professional, and game-ready playing conditions in compliance with Major League Baseball (MLB) and Minor League Baseball (MiLB) standards. This role works closely with the Head Groundskeeper and Stadium Operations team to maintain turf quality, field safety, and overall facility appearance during the baseball season and offseason
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Field & Turf Maintenance
- Assist with daily preparation of the playing surface, including infield skin, grass areas, pitcher’s mound, home plate, and base paths
- Perform mowing, edging, aeration, fertilization, topdressing, watering, and turf repairs
- Chalk baselines, batter’s boxes, logos, and field markings according to league specifications
- Maintain warning track, bullpens, and practice areas
Game Day & Event Support
- Prepare the field before, during, and after games, practices, and special events
- Assist with tarp deployment and removal during inclement weather
- Repair divots, lips, and worn areas during and between games
- Support quick turnarounds for doubleheaders or non-baseball events
- Engage in the management and hiring of seasonal grounds staff
Equipment & Inventory
- Operate and maintain grounds equipment including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerators, and hand tools
- Assist with preventative maintenance, cleaning, and safe storage of equipment
- Monitor inventory of clay, soil, seed, fertilizer, chalk, and other materials
- Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required, preferred Sports Turf Degree.
- Prior experience in athletic field maintenance, landscaping, turf management, or related work preferred, internship level or seasonal level will be considered.
- Knowledge of baseball field maintenance practices is strongly preferred
- Ability to operate grounds equipment safely (training provided if needed)
- Willingness to work long hours in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and teamwork mindset
