About Driveline Baseball

Driveline Baseball is a data-driven athlete development company that's helped reshape how baseball players train. Our technology and methods are used by MLB organizations, college programs, and elite amateur players worldwide. As our digital products grow, we're looking to strengthen the engineering team behind them.

The Role

We're hiring a part-time iOS engineer to help support and iterate on our production iOS app as usage continues to grow. This role is focused on shipping, reliability, and incremental improvement inside an existing native iOS codebase with real users.

You'll work within our iOS app to:
  • Debug and resolve production issues as they arise
  • Improve performance and stability in core workflows
  • Ship incremental improvements in collaboration with our lead iOS developer
  • Help reduce technical debt as the app scales

This is hands-on implementation work — not greenfield or exploratory R&D. You'll be joining a small, focused software team where your contributions ship quickly and visibly.

The Stack

  • Native iOS (Swift, some legacy Obj-C)
  • UIKit-based architecture
  • API-driven, with media-heavy workflows (video capture, playback, analysis)

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience shipping Swift/UIKit apps to production
  • Comfortable navigating and contributing to an established codebase
  • Track record debugging production issues, edge cases, and real-world device behavior
  • Good judgment around scope, tradeoffs, and delivery timelines
  • Collaborative communication style — you'll work closely with our lead developer and broader software team

Nice to Have (not required):

  • Media, video, or performance optimization experience
  • Familiarity with baseball training concepts or sports tech
  • Experience with Apple platform integrations (like HealthKit, AVFoundation, etc.)
  • Background supporting apps at scale

Logistics

  • Hours: Part-time, approximately 10–25 hours/week (flexible based on workload and availability)
  • Location: On-Site (Kent, WA) and/or Remote (US time zones preferred for async overlap)
  • Start Date: Targeting early January 2026
  • Compensation: Hourly, commensurate with experience — happy to discuss early in the process
  • Engagement: Contract or part-time employee, depending on preference

We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.

Job Questions:

  1. Rate 1-5 with 1 = No experience and 5 = Expert on the following topics. Swift + UIKit shipping: Rate your experience building and shipping production UIKit apps in Swift.

  2. Working in legacy/large codebases: Rate your comfort making changes safely in a large existing app (debugging, refactors, incremental PRs).

  3. Video (i.e. AVFoundation): Rate your experience with video capture/trim/export/compression and upload workflows.

  4. BLE / CoreBluetooth: Rate your experience with BLE scanning, connection state, background constraints, and reliability debugging.

  5. Debugging production issues: Rate your comfort using Crashlytics/logs to reproduce, triage, and ship fixes quickly.

  6. Why are you the best person for this position? Tell us anything else about you that we should know.

  7. Please provide any examples of your work (existing mobile apps ideal and/or GitHub)
