Job Summary

We are seeking a professional, skilled individual for a Japanese - English Interpreter & Translator position.

This position is responsible for helping our native English and Japanese - speaking team members and customers communicate effectively; both written and verbally.

A successful Interpreter-Translator at Driveline will be highly focused and well versed in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation.

You may be asked to support members of the Executive and / or Senior Leadership Team during meetings by simultaneously interpreting spoken Japanese to English and vice versa.

Outline of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing simultaneous - consecutive interpretation for internal, external, and virtual meetings, conferences, teleconferences, ceremonies/events, visitation to and by customers, vendors, suppliers, governmental authorities, industry associations, and company affiliates.
  • Responsible for providing correct, clear, and concise written translation of any documents in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and PDFs, inclusive of e-mail communications.
  • Responsible to render correct concepts and meanings between Japanese and English, upholding correct rules of grammar, clarity, and tone.
  • Collaborates with Associates and Management to provide explanation or advice on cultural differences or norms to improve effective communications within our intercultural workplace.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required

  • Fluency in Business-level English and Japanese (native speaker of either English or Japanese language preferred)
  • Ability to remain discrete with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to concentrate, stay detached from the conversation and always remain neutral and objective while providing consecutive - simultaneous interpretation.

  • Strong understanding of cultural norms & customs of the U.S. and Japan

  • High level of professionalism
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
  • Independent self-starter able to prioritize work under pressure and deadlines.
  • Interprets for our guests, customers, suppliers, and others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of baseball industry-specific terminology is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of Keigo (formal Japanese)
  • Ability to read and write using the Japanese Writing System (Kana and Kanji)
