Position Overview: The Atlanta Braves are looking for an experienced candidate to fill the position of Senior Data Engineer, Baseball Systems. The Senior Data Engineer position plays a critical role in developing and maintaining the data pipelines of the Baseball Operations department. The Data Engineer’s main responsibilities will be to build, enhance and maintain critical data workflows that support internal analytics applications and decision making processes of the Atlanta Braves front office, scouting and coaching staffs. Candidates should have 5+ years of proven experience in data engineering roles, with interest in baseball and sports analytics research as a strong plus. The position will report to Assistant General Manager, Research and Development. This position can be based out of Atlanta or remote.
Major responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain databases and other systems for storing baseball data.
- Develop and maintain processing pipelines to extract and transform data into usable datasets for Baseball Operations customers.
- Build relationships, communicate effectively, and gather feedback from Baseball Operations staff to translate their needs into new platforms and/or improvements within existing systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a full-time data engineer.
- BA or BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field of study or equivalent work experience.
- Established experience with database technologies, architecture and design patterns. Snowflake experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated track record of building and maintaining relational databases and data warehouses.
- Expert proficiency in writing SQL and optimizing queries.
- Highly proficient with programming language for scripting and manipulating data, Python strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with utilizing cloud services, AWS preferred.
- Familiarity with using version control such as git.
- Ability to learn new technologies, including new coding languages.
- Proven ability and initiative to work independently and handle high volumes of detailed work, multi-task and manage projects on short deadlines
- General baseball knowledge and interest
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends as dictated by the Major League season.
- Must complete a successful background check.
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of current baseball statistics and analytics used in player evaluation a plus
- Experience with modern orchestration frameworks, Dagster preferred.
- Experience with big data techniques.
- Exposure to Agile software development methodology. Kanban or Scrumban experience a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud developer tools.
