Intern, English Instructor
The Arizona Diamondbacks are seeking a passionate and highly proficient bilingual Spanish/English speaker for an intern teaching position at our Spring Training Facility in Salt River Fields. This role offers a unique opportunity to support our players' language acquisition journey while becoming an integral part of our organization.
Our teaching philosophy emphasizes building strong relationships with players and delivering acquisition-driven, input-based instruction. With a student load of approximately 40 players throughout most of the season, this position plays a key role in their development both on and off the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Deliver Engaging English Lessons: Develop high-quality English lessons and courses tailored to players' needs, aligning with the organization's teaching programs, methods, and standards.
- Integrate Baseball Context: Observe practices and games to identify relevant vocabulary and integrate it into classroom activities and curriculum development.
- Provide ESL Instruction: Conduct group tutoring sessions, one-on-one classes, and virtual lessons as needed.
- Manage Schedules: Create and coordinate class schedules that accommodate players’ routines and maximize participation.
- Monitor Progress: Track players’ language development through regular performance assessments, providing constructive feedback and maintaining detailed anecdotal records.
- Prepare Reports: Submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on players’ progress, engagement, and attendance to the Education Coordinator.
- Support Off-the-Field Development: Participate in off-the-field activities such as community outreach, educational workshops, excursions, MLB programs, and events with guest speakers.
- Collaborate with Dominican Republic (DR) Academy Staff: Work closely with the education staff in the DR Academy to enhance program alignment and address players' unique needs.
- Stay Current: Research best practices to stay informed about language teaching trends that lead to language acquisition.
- Demonstrate Flexibility: Adapt to the dynamic environment, accommodating the frequent changes in player rosters.
Qualifications:
- Must be a junior, senior, or postgraduate student pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university. (If you do not meet the internship requirements, please do not apply.)
- Ability to work in-person in Scottsdale, Arizona from January 2026 – October 2026
- Ability to work maximum of 30 hours per week
- Language Proficiency: Demonstrably fluent in Spanish and English, with strong communication skills in both languages.

- Teaching Philosophy: Knowledgeable and motivated to teach using Comprehensible Input based methods.
- Passion for Baseball: Enthusiasm for the sport, with a willingness to learn and incorporate baseball-related content into lessons.
- Adaptability: Flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
- Experience: While prior classroom experience is not required, candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to effective teaching and player development.
