JOB SUMMARY
The Fresno Convention and Entertainment Center is seeking a reliable, motivated individual
to join our Operations team as an Ice Technician. This position is ideal for someone who
takes pride in their work, is comfortable in a fast‑paced environment, and has an
appreciation for hockey and ice‑related events. Under the direction of the Director of
Operations, the Ice Technician is responsible for the daily maintenance and resurfacing of
ice sheets between scheduled hockey activities. This role ensures that all ice surfaces meet
required safety, quality, and performance standards to support successful event operations.
 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•      Assist with the setup and breakdown of ice surfaces, including ice installation, resurfacing, thickness monitoring, edging, and patching.
•      Operate ice maintenance equipment such as ice resurfacers, edgers, and related tools.
•     Support ice installation and ongoing ice maintenance tasks as required.
•      Monitor ice temperature, humidity levels, and building systems to maintain optimal ice conditions.
•      Work closely with facility operations staff to prepare the event space, meet production timelines, and ensure safety protocols are followed.
•      Communicate any environmental adjustments needed to the Director of Operations when corrections to HVAC or ice plant controls are required.
•      Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on ice equipment and refrigeration systems.
•       Respond to event staff, tenants, and participant inquiries or issues related to the ice surface.
•       Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
•      Support other event operations assigned, including flooring conversion and general facility maintenance tasks.
•      Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
 QUALIFICATION
•      High school diploma or equivalent.
•      Experience with ice installation or maintenance preferred but not required (training available).
•      Comfort working in cold environments for extended periods.
•      Ability to operate light equipment and tools safely.
•      Strong attention to detail with an ability to diagnose surface or equipment issues.
•      Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing physical tasks as needed.
•      Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on event schedules.
•      Strong teamwork and communication skills.
 ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES 
•      Consistently follows safety protocols when working in cold environments and around heavy equipment; identifies potential hazards and acts proactively.
•      Demonstrates the ability to learn and operate ice maintenance tools and machinery safely and efficiently.
•      Maintains accuracy when monitoring ice conditions, identifying surface issues, and performing maintenance tasks.
•      Works effectively with facility operations staff, event teams, and supervisors; communicates clearly and professionally.
•      Shows dependable attendance, completes assigned tasks on time, and adheres to established procedures.
•      Recognizes irregularities in ice conditions or equipment performance and responds appropriately by troubleshooting or notifying the correct personnel.
•      Adjusts to shifting schedules, event needs, and changing priorities in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
•      Demonstrates willingness and ability to learn refrigeration concepts, ice-related systems, and specialized equipment used in ice operations.
 CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a current, valid driver’s license.
  • Must have a working telephone number that can be accessed by management for business purposes.
 SALARY RANGE
$22.00 hourly, non-exempt.
 WORKING CONDITIONS
This role frequently requires working in ice rinks, cold environments, and around heavy
equipment. It involves a combination of independent tasks and close coordination with
facility operations staff. The position is fully on-site and requires work across all Fresno
Convention Center venues, including Selland Arena, Saroyan Theatre, and Valdez Hall.

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully
perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made for

both indoors and outdoors. Must have the physical ability to maneuver around facilities,
including walking and/or standing for up to 8–10 hours daily, and using stairs within all four
venues. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
