The Director of Operations plays a leadership role in ensuring the seamless daily functioning of the Chesapeake Conference Center. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and the Associate Executive Director, this individual is responsible for managing and actively participating in the operations of front and back-of-house services, technical systems, custodial services, event logistics, staffing, and overall facility readiness. The Director of Operations ensures a safe, efficient, and professional environment for clients, guests, and employees alike.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Attendance during regularly scheduled hours and available for intermittent on-call shifts during “offhours”.
2. Oversee the hiring, training and scheduling of all operational services staff, including cross training to ensure appropriate coverage. Plans and schedules levels of support according to event load.
3. Ensure that all events are properly staffed and executed in a professional manner.
4. Hands-On Maintenance to conduct regular inspections and maintenance of facilities and equipment, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards. Including the development and monitoring of maintenance contracts with third-party vendors. 
5. Maintains on-going relationships and communication with tenants and the public for a positive image. 
6. Works with all departments to ensure all events are coordinated, produced, and executed in a professional manner. 
7. Oversee personnel, including setup and maintenance and contract labor. 
8. Trains, plans, schedules, supervises, disciplines, and assigns part-time employees engaged in preparing for events, meetings, or other assemblies. 
9. Ensures an effective, cost-efficient operation by helping to prepare and administer the annual budget. 
10. Establishes, reviews and maintains a system of financial procedures, methods, accounts and controls records. 
11. Maintains logs, records and provides reports as required. 
12. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies and makes requisition for proper levels of same. 
13. Keeps cost records of work performed and makes cost estimates as requested. 
14. Establishes, disseminates, and monitors work performance and safety standards and OSHA requirements. 
15. Organizes and executes training and safety programs. 
16. Available to work irregular schedule as required ensuring proper supervision of events and activities scheduled in the Chesapeake Conference Center. 
17. Crisis Management to develop contingency plans for operational disruptions and lead the response to emergencies, ensuring minimal impact on business operations 
18. Attend internal meetings and represent the facility at external meetings as deemed necessary. 
19. Checks and verifies all payroll worksheets of personnel under his/her jurisdiction prior to approval of same. 
20. Serves as Chair of Safety Committee. 
21. Serves as Director on Duty when required. 
22. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and Associate Executive Director.
