The Lead Bartender position is a key role in ensuring a successful bar operation at the Tacos & Tequila Event hosted by the Kane County Cougars. This one-day leadership role requires a seasoned professional with strong bartending skills, a deep knowledge of spirits (especially tequila), and experience managing bar staff in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The Lead Bartender will oversee bar setup, team coordination, service flow, and compliance with all alcohol regulations to deliver a smooth and enjoyable guest experience.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Oversee and support a team of bartenders, ensuring all bar areas are staffed, stocked, and operating efficiently.
- Lead bar setup and breakdown, including organization of inventory, equipment, and workstations.
- Serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to standard recipes and safety regulations.
- Act as the main point of contact for event supervisors, relaying key updates to bar staff.
- Monitor service quality, guest satisfaction, and workflow throughout the event.
- Ensure staff compliance with Illinois liquor laws, venue policies, and safe alcohol service practices.
- Troubleshoot issues, including inventory shortages, equipment needs, and guest concerns.
- Assist with cash handling and closing procedures for all bartending stations.
- Maintain a professional and upbeat atmosphere, leading by example in customer service and teamwork.
- All other duties as assigned
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Valid BASSET (Beverage Alcohol Sellers and Servers Education and Training) certification.
- Minimum of 2–3 years bartending experience in a high-volume or event setting.
- Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of tequila, mezcal, and craft cocktail preparation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift, push, or carry up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Must be able to stand and walk for up to 6–8 hours.
- Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, or wind.
- Availability to work the entire event day, including early setup and late teardown.
- Reliable transportation to and from Northwestern Medicine Field in Geneva, IL.
