Overview

The Museum Coordinator for the Larry Bird Museum is responsible for the daily operations and management of the museum dedicated to the legendary basketball player, Larry Bird. This position is a full-time opportunity that entails administrative duties, customer service, and oversight of museum operations. The Museum Coordinator will report directly to the General Manager of the Terre Haute Convention Center and will play a crucial role in providing an exceptional visitor experience while ensuring the museum's smooth operation. The Larry Bird Museum will be a free open to the open-to-the-public experience dedicated to educating the public about the life and history of Larry Bird.

 

This role will pay an hourly wage of $13.00-$15.00 / hr

Responsibilities

  • Represent the Larry Bird Museum from a customer service standpoint, providing a welcoming and informative experience to visitors.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries, assist with tour information, and address any concerns or issues promptly and professionally.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Larry Bird Museum, including exhibit maintenance, cleanliness, and organization.
  • Be able to communicate with guests the rules of the museum while being very customer friendly.
  • Schedule and coordinate museum tours through an online booking system and over the phone.
  • Scheduling of school and educational tours and coordinating parking for buses.
  • Open and securely close the museum each day, ensuring the safety and integrity of the museum's contents.
  • Maintain awareness of items and people within the museum.
  • Coordinate with the museum's curatorial team on exhibit updates and changes if and when needed.
  • Enlist the help of volunteers and interns to assist with answering phones, addressing guest questions, and providing information about Larry Bird's career and legacy.
  • Collaborate with other museum staff, including docents and volunteers.
  • Monitor the capacity of museum attendance.
  • Monitor and record humidity levels through applications.
  • Track and analyze visitor data.
  • Orders office supplies.
  • Provide basic clerical support services to other Directors and GM when needed.
  • Process paperwork related to museum operations as well as Assist the Director of Finance and General Manager with administrative OVG duties.
  • Maintains office equipment including computer, printer, and copy machine.
  • Participate on Convention Center committees and interact with other OVG employees.
  • Assist in planning and executing museum-related activities and/or events.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, Arts Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • Previous experience in museum management or a similar role is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using computer applications, including Microsoft office, word, and excel.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of Larry Bird's career and legacy in basketball is a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, to accommodate museum operations and potential events.

Depending on the specific needs of the Larry Bird Museum and Terre Haute Convention Center, the Museum Manager may be required to perform other duties not listed in this job description but directly related to the successful operation of the museum and facility.
