Overview

This Maintenance Coordinator position will ensure the correct set-up and dismantling of banquet and meeting rooms to meet individual guest needs, as well as performing general facility maintenance and handyman tasks to keep the Saint John Trade & Convention Centre in excellent condition.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $17.50-$19.00 CAD

Responsibilities

The Maintenance Coordinator position is responsible for ensuring Banquet and Meeting rooms are set up properly according to specifications detailed on floorplans provided by the Operations Manager. The Maintenance Coordinator works by themselves or with other team members to set up and dismantle tables, chairs, risers, staging, and removable flooring for meetings and events.

 

In addition, the Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for:

  • Checking and cleaning meeting rooms before, during, and after events.
  • Providing and replenishing water service as required.
  • Receiving, moving, and storing materials on behalf of clients.
  • Carrying a cellphone during shifts to respond promptly to client concerns about room set-up.
  • Cleaning guest and staff washrooms, ensuring supplies are replenished and areas are tidy at all times.
  • Removing garbage during and after events.

General Handyman & Maintenance Duties:

  • Perform light repairs such as fixing door handles, hinges, locks, shelving, and furniture.
  • Assist with minor plumbing tasks (unclogging drains, fixing leaks, replacing fixtures as needed).
  • Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, batteries, and other consumables.
  • Conduct small carpentry jobs such as assembling, repairing, or adjusting furniture, risers, and staging.
  • Support electrical needs such as running extension cords, checking outlets, and reporting larger issues.
  • Assist with painting, touch-ups, and wall/finish repairs.
  • Conduct regular facility walk-throughs to identify and report maintenance needs.
  • Support Operations Manager with event-related maintenance or special projects.

Other Considerations:   

  • The Maintenance Coordinator works closely with the Operations Manager, Director of Sales, and Food and Beverage Team to ensure guest needs are met in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications for this position include Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent, related experience.
  • The ability to work flexible and sometimes long hours based on business levels.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are required.
  • This is a physically demanding role involving heavy lifting, manual labor, and problem-solving.
  • Previous experience in facility maintenance, event set-up, or a similar handyman role is considered an asset.
