Overview

The Lead Ice Technician is responsible for maintaining ice quality to NHL standards through scheduled resurfacing, event conversions, and ensuring the rink and all related equipment are safe and operational. Additional duties include other assigned ice maintenance tasks, including but not limited to the installation and deconstruction of the hockey ice surface.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $30.33

Responsibilities

  • Perform general labor and support tasks as assigned
  • Install and maintain ice, including freezing the ice floor, painting base colors, lines, and logos and building up and leveling the ice sheet, and overall ice quality
  • Operate Zamboni or Olympia resurfacer during games, practices, and other ice-related events
  • Monitor and maintain ice quality by removing debris, checking depth, and performing scrapes
  • Set up, maintain, and repair rink infrastructure such as ice dams, dashers, glass, and hockey nets as needed and during events
  • Work with Facilities to inspect and repair equipment, including Zamboni, dasher boards, glass, safety netting, edgers, resurfacer blades, and goal frames, exercising adequate judgment to ensure completion of tasks as assigned
  • Assist in cleaning up ice before and after events and setting up the game day ice crew area and with ice installation/removal and event conversions
  • Monitor all refrigeration equipment, keep necessary records and logbooks on equipment, and inform the Ice Operations Manager if systems or equipment is malfunctioning
  • Maintain compliance with building safety and operational policies
  • Perform other duties as required to support events and operations

Qualifications

  • Experience operating Zamboni or Olympia resurfacers
  • Comfortable in front of large crowds
  • Comfortable operating Resurfacer with intermission rider
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 2+ years’ experience operating ice resurfacing equipment preferred
  • Previous experience with ice edger and forklift equipment preferred
  • Must be able to take both verbal and written direction
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects on a frequent basis
  • Ability to stand on feet for up to 8 hours at a time, kneel, stoop, climb stair, and reach/lift above head in conjunction with ice maintenance tasks
