Overview

The Ice Rink Operations Manager is responsible for supervising day-to-day facility operations of the Boss Ice Arena during events and non-event times. The Ice Rink Operations Manager will assist the Director of Ice Rink with planning and implementation of associated work tasks as well as assist in supervising the part-time staff to ensure that the facility is in excellent working order. This position will have direct responsibilities in handling building maintenance and ice related duties. In addition, the Ice Rink Operations Manager will have secondary responsibilities related to supporting the Operations Department for the Ryan Center, including assistance with event changeovers.  This position will have dual reporting to both the Director of Ice Rink at the Boss Ice Arena (primary) and the Director of Operations of the Ryan Center (secondary).

 

This role will pay an hourly rate of $25.00

Responsibilities

  • Ensure ice and building are maintained in excellent working order, including but not limited to taking out the ice surface and bringing it back up as required which includes driving the Ice Resurfacer (currently a Zamboni) as needed
  • Assist Director of Ice Rink in project planning and execution
  • Repair and detect any broken and/or malfunctioning equipment as needed including off-season projects to enhance the facility
  • Create and implement Ice Maintenance Training Programs for staff members
  • Prepare Ice Maintenance Schedule and documentation
  • Prepare Ice and Building Evaluation Summary for Director of Ice Rink, including Needs Analysis and Purchase Orders for each individual project
  • Serve as Manager-on-Duty when Director of Ice Rink and Ice Rink Assistant Manager are not present in the building, including the oversight of public program sessions and events as needed
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies
  • Oversee part-time ice rink operations staff (ice techs, skate monitors, cleaners, etc.), including serving as a back-up as needed
  • Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records and permits; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Order supplies and materials for facility within budget guidelines from Director of Ice Rink; receive and maintain supplies.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Boss Ice Arena budget; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary.

  • Responsible for snow removal as required
  • Provide clean, sanitary, and safe internal and external areas of the facility
  • Assist with customer service initiatives on event days
  • Support the Operations Department at the Ryan Center as needed for events including event changeovers.

Qualifications

  • Experience with building maintenance operations and/or ice making and equipment operations, and ice resurfacer maintenance
  • CIT and/or STAR Operator preferred; college degree is preferred but not required.
  • Capable of working a flexible schedule and extended hours, including but not limited to working early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to traditional business hours.
  • Must be able to work in a cold and wet environment for long periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to stand for multiple hours at a time, climb stairs, and lift 75+ pounds, unaided.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language
  • Possess excellent customer service skills, supervisory, and organizational skills to function in a multi-task environment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications including Word and Excel
