Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance, the Facilities HVAC Technician is responsible for maintenance, repairs, and optimization of HVAC systems to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for all staff, events, and guests. The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of experience in HVAC work and have a strong understanding of building management systems and HVAC controls.
This position will support the University of Houston Athletics department’s goal of providing operational excellence through consistent, cost effective, and reliable maintenance and service. This position performs work which involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining HVAC systems and equipment in buildings utilized by the Athletics Department, student-athletes, donors, and the public. Core responsibilities include exemplary customer service to internal and external constituents by performing maintenance of HVAC systems and other related equipment that support athletics events in the department's venues.
This role pays an hourly rate of $31.25-$38.46

Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units.
- Operate and maintain computerized HVAC equipment.
- Assist in all services and activities involved in the maintenance of the facility including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose system malfunctions and implement effective repair solutions.
- Monitor and control climate conditions throughout the athletic complexes, adjusting settings as necessary to maintain optimal performance.
- Collaborate with the facilities team to coordinate HVAC services related to scheduled events, ensuring all systems are operational before, during, and after all events.
- Work in conjunction with the electrical department on fire alarm system and energy management programs; perform maintenance on HVAC with electrician as required.
- Ability to work with and evaluate outside service contractors.
- Monitor chemical treatment to cooling towers and chillers.
- Maintain accurate records and logs of repairs, maintenance schedules, and inventory of HVAC supplies.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards, maintaining a safe work environment.
- Respond promptly to emergency HVAC repair needs and unexpected system failures.
- Assist in upgrading and installing new HVAC systems as required.
- Inspect and monitor internal systems and physical plant equipment as required.
- Maintain effective working relationships with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and others encountered during employment.
- Serve as a team representative for the athletic complexes when scheduled as lead for assigned events.
- Work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, days, evenings, holidays, and extended (long) workdays for an extended number of days as needed.
- Frequent bending, carrying, moving, climbing, working from various heights, lifting 50+ pounds, sitting, exposure to moderate loud noises, and extensive walking through the building.

Qualifications
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:
- 3-5 Years related experience and/or training in HVAC trade required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or vocational training in HVAC preferred.
- Proven experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Proficient in using hand and power tools related to HVAC work.
- Knowledge of relevant codes and regulations regarding HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and refrigeration.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and other materials.
- Ability to follow and adhere to all safety precautions, building codes, rules, regulations, risk management, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to operate light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, scrubbing machines, or other light power-driven equipment.
- Ability to operate monitoring controls and a personal computer (light use) using the 24/7 Work Order System, Windows, Microsoft Office software, and email.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing.
- Experience in stadiums, arenas, and/or convention centers is preferred.
- Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work with limited supervision and as a team member
- Required Journeyman’s license in HVAC.
- Possession of Universal CFC license preferred.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
