Overview

Utilizing independent judgment, the Director of Operations manages, supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the Crown Complex, coordinating with County facilities departments on engineering and maintenance, primary responsibilities include set-up/changeovers, custodial/housekeeping, and preventative facility maintenance. Provides overall administrative planning, direction, and policies to operating managers, assuring the highest quality service program to assure booking/rebooking of events. Ensures an effective and cost-efficient program by controlling departmental operating budget. Provides highly responsible staff assistance to the General Manager.


This role pays an annual salary of $75,000-$85,000 and is bonus eligible

Responsibilities

  • Oversees overall daily operation and maintenance of the complex and technical systems. This includes, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, ice making, fire and life safety, workplace safety, communications, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate, and review the work plan for the Crown Complex operations; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
  • Oversees the advancing and communicating event information to the appropriate departments and staff.
  • Oversees Custodial services for entire facility.
  • Assists in negotiations and administration of changeover labor group contract.
  • Ultimately responsible for installation and maintenance of ice surfaces, (portable exterior systems)
  • Oversees the operation of event set-up and tear-down, i.e., stage risers, chairs, signs, hockey glass, dashers, etc.
  • Administers and negotiates contracts with outside vendors including, kitchen systems, housekeeping equipment, window washing, custodial services, contracted stagehand labor, grounds maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.
  • Acts as liaison with County Services for numerous facility related functions (county codes, licenses, permits, maintenance and engineering, inspections, event permits, warranties etc.).
  • Schedules, trains and oversees the operations managers, changeover supervisors, building mechanics, building services staff, etc.
  • Oversees the ordering of supplies and materials for building supplies and maintenance within budget guidelines.
  • Responsible for Health & Safety compliance.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Technical degree from an accredited college/university/school required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in facility operations management. Theatre experience preferred.
  • Must show demonstrated knowledge of physical plant management, supervisory skills and experience in work crew supervision in facility operations.
  • Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and control.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Basic Knowledge of boilers, chillers, refrigeration and ice making.
  • Basic Knowledge of Fire Alarm / Fire Protection systems.
  • Basic Knowledge of Elevator and Escalator systems.
  • Knowledge of Burglar / Hold up Alarm systems.

Social demands:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. Employees in this role will constantly be in leadership role; this requires directing others either verbally or in writing to complete tasks in prescribed time frame. This position also requires constant use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.

 

Physical demands:

While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee constantly operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; occasionally moves about inside the office to access storage areas, cabinets and office machinery; constantly moves about the arena and event sites before, during and after events to service clients and supervise staff; constantly communicates via telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information.

 

Work environment:

The duties of this position are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-event times.
