Overview

The Director of Human Resources will lead the human resources and organizational development efforts at OVG Hamilton, overseeing operations across TD Coliseum, FirstOntario Concert Hall, and The Studio. This individual will be responsible for building a positive and inclusive workplace culture, driving talent acquisition and retention, and implementing HR strategies that align with the company’s values and objectives. Reporting to senior leadership, the Director of Human Resources will work closely with department heads to ensure a high-performing and engaged workforce while upholding OVG’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion across all three venues. In addition, this individual will play a pivotal role in the launch of Hamilton’s new professional hockey team, leading the build-out of the business operations team from the ground up—including organizational design, recruitment, and onboarding of front-office staff across ticketing, marketing, partnerships, and fan experience.

 

This role will pay an annual salary of $105,000-$125,000 CAD and is bonus eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute HR strategies that support the business objectives and employee engagement goals of OVG Hamilton’s three venues.
  • Lead the human resources strategy for the launch of Hamilton’s new professional hockey team, including building out the full business operations team—designing the organizational structure, executing a high-volume recruitment effort, and onboarding front-office staff across ticketing, marketing, sponsorship, community relations, and venue operations.
  • Oversee talent acquisition, onboarding, and workforce planning to attract and retain top talent across TD Coliseum, FirstOntario Concert Hall, and The Studio.
  • Lead employee relations initiatives, conflict resolution processes, and performance management programs.
  • Implement policies and programs that foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment at all venue levels.
  • Manage compensation, benefits, and employee rewards programs to enhance satisfaction and retention.
  • Collaborate with venue and department leadership to identify learning and development opportunities that support staff growth.
  • Ensure compliance with Ontario labour laws, employment standards, and company-wide HR policies.
  • Drive employee engagement initiatives, workplace culture programs, and recognition efforts across the portfolio.

  • Oversee HR data analytics, reporting, and performance metrics to support strategic business decisions.

  • Represent OVG Hamilton at industry conferences, community events, and networking opportunities to strengthen employer branding

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive HR leadership experience, preferably within the sports, entertainment, or venue management industry.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA), and applicable labour legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience fostering an inclusive, dynamic, and high-performing workplace culture.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and HR analytics platforms.
  • HR certification preferred (e.g., CHRP, CHRL, SHRM-CP, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with labour unions and interpreting collective agreements.
