Overview
The Building Coordinator is an event-driven support position that provides physical support and oversees projects and employee productivity in the areas of housekeeping, show care, room sets, event teardown, arena conversions, convention services, and grounds maintenance at the Iowa Events Center. The Building Coordinator leads small crews of part-time Building Attendants on tasks and projects and is responsible for daily checklists and labor allocation sheets.
This role pays an hourly rate of $19.00 (per CBA).
Benefits as per the union agreement.
This position will remain open until September 11, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Works with small teams on tasks and projects: housekeeping, set-ups, changeovers, show care, teardown, convention services, and grounds.
- Provides daily training and coaching to part-time staff members in day-to-day activities, seeking out Operations Supervisors for additional assistance.
- Create a positive teamwork atmosphere, building team morale and a professional environment.
- Responsible for thorough execution of daily check lists and labor allocation sheets.
- Promptly reports any concerns or personnel issues to Operations Management, reporting escalated concerns immediately.
- Verifies and reports information from daily cleaning checklists throughout the facility.
- Responsible for filling out and verifying quality room sets and other event paperwork.
- Operates an assortment of equipment including, but not limited to, forklifts, pallet jacks, buffers, burnishers, rider sweepers, rider scrubbers, walk-behind scrubbers, blowers, vacuums, and snow removal equipment along with folding chairs, stacking chairs, tables of various shapes and sizes, drapery, skirting, and staging.
- Responsible for safe use of various supplies, including a variety of cleaning chemicals, mops, brooms, shovels, and scrapers.
- Responsible for reading detailed event documentation and diagrams to accurately complete room sets.
- Provide ongoing direction to Building Attendants, set up crews, and temporary staff before, during, and after events.
- Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients.
- Work on-site, regularly arrive on time, and maintain good attendance.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Some college or a degree in facility management, sports management, business, or a similar field is preferred; experience will be considered in lieu of education.
- 1-2 years of experience in a public facility preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure event environment.
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements and state, local, and federal company safety standards.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret event resumes for room sets.
- Proficient computer skills in a Windows format, including use of MS Office, Excel, and Word.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks or event sets at one time and meet deadlines.
- Forklift certification or ability to acquire it within 6 months in position.
- Demonstrated experience working with forklifts, pallet jacks, buffers, burnishers, rider sweepers, rider scrubbers, walk-behind scrubbers, blowers, vacuums, and snow removal equipment.
- Demonstrated professional interpersonal communication.
- Ability to work an event-driven schedule, including shifts of 8 hours or more on varying days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
