Overview

The Assistant Manager, Event Production plays a critical role in the planning, coordination, and execution of live events from a back-of-house production perspective. This position is responsible for independently managing assigned events and overseeing key production elements to ensure smooth, safe, and successful execution. The Assistant Manager leads and assists with event advancement, coordinates cross-departmental logistics, and serves as a primary production contact for designated events. Working within established venue standards and operational frameworks, this role exercises independent judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making authority throughout the event lifecycle.  The Assistant Manager collaborates closely with internal departments, promoters, touring productions, union crews, and external partners to deliver high-quality event experiences. Depending on event scope and complexity, this role will lead full smaller-scale productions or manage significant components of large-scale events. This position is ideal for a production professional ready to take ownership of event execution while contributing to the continued operational excellence of the venue. 

 

This role pays an annual salary of $45,000-$60,000 CAD

Responsibilities

Event Planning & Execution: 

  • Plan and execute assigned concerts, sporting events, family shows, and special events.
  • Serve as a primary production contact for designated events, advancing technical and operational requirements with promoters and touring personnel. 
  • Lead the coordination of event logistics including production schedules, floor plans, rigging requirements, staging, loading dock operations, security coordination, and staffing plans. 
  • Oversee assigned event elements such as backstage operations, artist hospitality, room allocations, credentialing, and venue readiness.
  • Provide on-site leadership during load-in, run-of-show, and load-out, resolving operational issues in real time.
  • Manage smaller or lower-complexity events in their entirety, ensuring alignment with venue standards and financial expectations. 

Venue & Department Coordination: 

  • Work cross-functionally with Operations, Security, Fan Experience, Engineering, Ticketing, and other departments to support event readiness. 
  • Lead and assist with the creation and distribution of event sheets, schedules, and internal communications.
  • Coordinate with Union staff and vendors to support crew calls, schedules, and on-site execution. 
  • Participate in pre-event meetings and walk-throughs, contributing to planning and problem-solving discussions. 
  • Identify and flag potential operational or production issues and develop solutions.

Client & Partner Relations: 

  • Support promoter, artist, and touring production needs in a professional and service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain clear, timely, and accurate communication with internal teams and external partners. 
  • Ensure event-day expectations are met and escalate concerns appropriately. 
  • Contribute to a client-focused experience that supports TD Coliseum’s reputation as a trusted and best-in-class venue partner. 

Administration & Reporting: 

  • Create and update event-related paperwork including event sheets, schedules, and post-event notes.
  • Assist with the preparation of event estimates, staffing plans, and production documentation.
  • Track and document related expenses to production and staffing. 
  • Assist with updating venue technical packs, maps, and inventory documentation.
  • Coordinate union crew administration, including sign-ins and coordination with Union Heads. 

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in event production, venue operations, or live entertainment environments.
  • Foundational understanding of live event production, back-of-house operations, and touring requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Clear, professional communicator comfortable working with internal teams and external partners. 
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and solutions-focused in fast-paced, live-event environments.
  • Familiarity with unionized environments, production crews, or technical event operations is an asset. 
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and event management or scheduling software is preferred.
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and progressively assume greater.
