Overview

The Assistant Director of Operations manages, supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operations of Chartway Arena, including operations, changeover, engineering, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, building repairs, maintenance, service agreements, custodial/housekeeping, and budgets/purchasing. In addition, oversees gameday operations of SB Ballard Stadium.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $65,000-$80,000 and is bonus eligible

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintenance, operations and repairs at Chartway Arena including HVAC, electrical/lighting systems, fire safety, mechanical, plumbing equipment, refrigeration equipment systems, elevators, cooling towers, boilers, water pumps and building control systems
  • Supervise and coordinate events at Chartway Arena, Kornblau Field at SB Ballard Stadium, and Multi-Purpose Room conversions with an emphasis on client and customer service.
  • Participate in the delivery of events; coordinate arrangements with event and operations departments, contractors and clients; monitor and/or direct the work of contractors on building projects
  • Oversees post-game clean up at S.B. Ballard Stadium
  • Manage facility gameday staff at S.B. Ballard Stadium
  • Responsbile for all venue service agreements. Negotiates all building services agreements.  
  • Participate in work planning for facility maintenance and operations; identify and resolve problems; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work projects, methods and procedures
  • Monitor expenditures for equipment, materials, and supplies; oversee supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines; receive and maintain supplies
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records and permits; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations. Ensure a safe work environment at all times
  • Maintain and keep an inventory of all Arena and stadium equipment.
  • Oversee opening or closing of Arena for a move-in or move-out.
  • Build and maintain tenant relations (Athletics, Starbucks, and event tenants).
  • Oversees and facilitates the maintenance programs, housekeeping and assists with building physical systems and repairs. 
  • Supervises: Housekeeping Manager, Operations Manager, Mainteance manager, and contractors.
  • Act as manager on duty.
  • Responsible for purchasing of building and event equipment.
  • Responsibilities include operations oversight for ODU Football at SB Ballard Stadium.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college/university in a related field (Facility Management, Engineering, Sports Management, etc.) 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ industry experience and demonstrate knowledge of physical plant management, supervisory skills and experience in work crew supervision in arena operations; experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, building repair and carpentry
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills and be able to function in a multi-task environment.
  • Certifications in electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing is preferred.
  • Understanding of OSAH Requirement

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs or more on a regular basis
  • Ability to work long hours and varied schedules
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in the most productive and/or appropriate manner
  • Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility 
  • Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with other in both oral and written form
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines  
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, patrons and others 
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur
