Overview

The Assistant Director of Finance oversees the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) accounting functions, including (but not limited to) audit coordination, financial reporting, internal controls, and year-end closing. This role performs complex accounting functions and ensures all financial processes align with organizational policy, client requirements, and industry best practices. In addition, this position supports the development and execution of MBCC’s financial strategy. The Assistant Director of Finance provides financial expertise to optimize performance, enhance operational efficiency, and maximize return on investment. The role also contributes to the creation and execution of the annual business plan, ensuring financial activities support the property’s long-term objectives and deliver strong financial results.

 

The Assistant Director of Finance plays a key role in shaping MBCC’s financial strategy by analyzing trends, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring the accuracy of financial data used for executive decisions. Through cross-departmental collaboration, this position supports initiatives that improve profitability, increase financial transparency, and align operational activities with the Convention Center’s long-term business objectives.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $95,000-$100,000.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as Director is proxy to any absence of the Finance Director.
  • Assigns duties and responsibilities and oversees workflow of project staff.
  • Oversee the day-to-day workflow of the department.
  • Exemplify leadership qualities and participate in department projects.
  • Participation is relevant to performance evaluations in a timely and constructive manner.
  • To ensure that all local and corporate policies and procedures are observed, and to supervise the day-to-day operation of the Accounting office.
  • Prepare all financial statements, accruals and journal entries, and maintains reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts in established corporate formats and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. 

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, auditing standards, and internal controls
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in financial systems (NetSuite, Sage, ADP, Coupa or similar ERP software) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work collaboratively with all MBCC departments, City representatives, and corporate partners.
  • Commitment to accuracy, operational efficiency, and delivering high-quality financial results.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree is a plus.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably in a convention center, hospitality, public venue, or similar operational environment
  • Experience with audit processes, month-end and year-end closing, financial analysis, and budgeting required
  • Experience and confidence presenting to ownership.
  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or other advanced certifications preferred but not required.
