Overview

The Director of Accounting directs the hospitality division accounting function as well as hiring and onboarding the accounting team.

This role performs a full range of professional accounting duties involved in fiscal management, record keeping, reporting and financial analysis of the division. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, proactive, and a collaborative professional responsible for supporting the financial infrastructure of the division. The candidate will communicate and work with the teams at the physical locations as well as assist staff accountants during the monthly cycle and at month end. 

 

Salary Range: $145,000-170,000

Responsibilities

  • Daily written and verbal interaction with venues nationwide and international
  • Working directly with Regional and Divisional Senior Level Management as well as across all business lines
  • Hiring, onboarding, and performance management of the accounting team
  • Manages the accounting function by supervising daily, weekly, and monthly data entry activities and schedules month-end financial closing.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures that will improve the overall effectiveness of the accounting operations and organization.
  • Review reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts, escalating all continuing or material reconciling items to the VP of Accounting on a timely basis.
  • Provides leadership and opportunities for professional growth and development for the team.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors for the annual audit process, including timely preparation of work papers to auditor requests.
  • Assists in reviewing the reasonableness of the divisions financial results prior to month-end financial closings.
  • Notifies senior accounting management of potential accounting issues or internal control weaknesses and develops possible corrective actions.
  • Ensures timely, accurate communication of relevant information to operating components and clients.
  • Apply Federal, State, and local laws and regulations pertaining to accounting and auditing work.
  • Directs the installation and maintenance of any new accounting procedures and controls.
  • Conduct special accounting projects as requested.
  • Support the accounting team in onboarding and offboarding venues.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including supervisory experience. Some experience in the sports entertainment industry preferred but not required.
  • MBA, master’s degree, or CPA is strongly preferred but not required.
  • The ability to manage and motivate a large team in an ever-evolving environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to be a self-starter, handle multiple tasks, be accurate and efficient with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with various levels of management within the division as well as across all business lines and to influence others without formal authority.
  • Be able to work late nights during the month end close and year end.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • Proficiency in Sage accounting software preferred.
