Group Training and Personal Training Manager
Property Description:
The Land is a premier sports, recreation, and events complex located in Saraland, Alabama. This state-of-the-art complex will offer a wide range of community amenities, including indoor sports and recreation facilities, versatile event spaces, and an expansive outdoor area with multi-use fields and courts for various sports. The Land will feature five multipurpose fields for football, field hockey, lacrosse, and soccer, alongside eight baseball and softball diamonds, including a 400-foot regulation-size field. Six tennis courts, pickleball courts, a beach volleyball court, full-service concessions, hiking path and trails, and an event lawn offer endless outdoor recreation activities. The Land’s indoor recreation center will include four basketball courts, eight volleyball courts, an indoor track, fitness center, family entertainment center, and adaptable event spaces complete with food and beverage amenities. The outdoor complex is operational, with the indoor recreation center is opening in November 2025.
Position Summary
The Group Exercise (GX) and Personal Training (PT) Manager is responsible for creating a cohesive team of personal training professionals and group exercise instructors that deliver a world class Personal Training and Group Exercise Experience that is exciting, fun, entertaining, motivating, and facilitates an overall wellness lifestyle. This role will administer and evaluate a broad range of high-quality health, fitness and sports programs and services that create a stimulating fitness experience that is effective and efficient for a large, diversified membership. This position reports to the Fitness Center Manager, with a dotted line to the Complex General Manager. One focus of the role is to drive quantitative and qualitative metrics for the personal training program at the fitness center. Specifically, the focus of this role is personal training and group exercise duties, but as a leader within the building, will contribute to general Fitness Center operations leadership.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage, evaluate, and measure all personal training programs and ensure they meet high-quality standards.
• Meet budget expectations and key performance indicators.
• Meet programming brand standard expectations.
• Conduct regular, weekly and biweekly business development meetings with your PT team.
• Attend all PT related training and meetings set forth by the director of fitness.
• Grow the Fitness Center PT and Class business
• Foster an environment in your Fitness Center that facilitates session productivity and growth.
• Monitor trainer clientele to ensure client expectations are met.
• Seek feedback from clientele on how to improve experience.
• Supervise fitness floor shifts to ensure safe and productive workouts and excellent customer service.
• Schedule to provide appropriate coverage and attention to appointments.
• Work closely with the sales team to ensure new members are being provided with a PLAN within 2 weeks of beginning membership.
• Accountable to monthly and quarterly team development, program development, monthly and quarterly revenue, personal development, client management/retention goals.
Personal Training and Group Exercise Team Leadership and Development:
• Maintain a quality Personal Training and Group Exercise team by recruiting, hiring, training/orienting, evaluating, coaching, maintaining proper payroll records and critical statistic record keeping for Fitness Center operations analysis.
• Lead and motivate the team to deliver the best programs, personal training, events, activities, and experiences.
• Perform team member appraisals in a timely and efficient manner.
• Conduct all communication within a 24-hour response time.
• Lead and develop the necessary training and education to properly develop the skillsets of the department.
• Lead by example on industry excellence.
• Conduct new trainer, group exercise instructor and client onboarding processes as outlined and required.
• Perform bi-annual observation and review of each group exercise instructor for performance quality and adherence to program specificity, including video review and personal feedback from instructor.
• Maintains and achieves additional certifications/education and encourages staff to pursue additional certifications as needed.
• Perform all team member Annual Performance Reviews in a timely and efficient manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Know, understand, and exemplify The Land Fitness Centers Service Standards.
• Ensure all Team Members (in and out of their department) know, understand and exemplify the Fitness Centers Service Standards.
• Develop synergy with all Fitness Center departments for cross-selling and combined programming.
• Adhere to all departmental and program Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
Scheduling Requirements
• Teach or attend at least 2 group fitness classes per week.
• Assist with other Fitness Center operations tasks as needed, as directed by the Fitness Center Manager.
• Create a schedule to effectively balance group exercise instruction, events, personal training, and leadership responsibilities.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously while prioritizing tasks to meet retention goals and facility objectives.
• Maintain a neat and professional appearance by wearing The Land Fitness Centers uniform and name badge.
• Instill a culture within the PT Team that promotes safe and effective workouts and values personal training.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Degree in Fitness related field preferred.
• Maintain national certification as well as maintaining staff national cert status is always up to date. • _First Aid/CPR Training. In the event a team member is hired without CPR or First certifications, they will be required to attend MVP Sports Fitness Centers in-house training to obtain this.
• Minimum of 2 years of field experience with at least 2 years in management positions preferred.
• Prior experience on the public/commercial side of the industry managing large facilities with direct accountability for programs.
• Prior staff management experience.
• Proficient computer skills (word processing, spread sheets & graphics programs).
• Possess strong leadership skills and be competent in staff training.
• Experienced in broad knowledge of exercise testing and prescription in order to deal with a varied membership who may need special counseling re: diabetes, high blood pressure, pregnancy, orthopedic problems, etc.
• Understand basic principles of marketing/motivation, exercise science and safety, behavior modification and emergency procedures, and be able to train staff in these areas.
• Demonstrate a firm understanding of health enhancement programs and be able to effectively promote their value to members and deliver seminars.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and must be able to provide effective management and leadership that will translate into staff development and success.
• Must help establish and enforce the policies and procedures of the facilities, while deciding when to make exceptions for special cases.
• Physical Requirements: Bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit and turn/pivot; Life/lower, push, pull and carry up to 40 lbs; perform office tasks using simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach associated with assigned tasks such as paperwork, typing, and/or word processing, filing, calculating and use of telephone; See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions.

- Physical ability to demonstrate exercises, assist members, and move equipment when necessary.
