Job Title: HVAC and Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:
Frontwave Arena is a premier indoor entertainment and sports venue, hosting a wide range of events including sports, concerts, and community gatherings. As a vital part of the operations team, the HVAC and Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the facility’s infrastructure to ensure safety, efficiency, and readiness for any event. This hands-on role involves performing repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and refrigeration systems. The technician will work independently and supervise third-party contractors as needed, ensuring all systems are operational, safe, and comply with regulatory standards. A proactive, disciplined approach is essential to support the arena’s mission of delivering a top-tier experience for patrons while safeguarding the facility’s integrity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute preventive maintenance on all HVAC systems, including filter and belt replacements, ensuring maximum efficiency.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues and perform repairs confidently, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Conduct plumbing repairs and maintenance swiftly and effectively.
- Maintain refrigeration units and ice-making equipment, ensuring continuous performance during events.
- Log all work meticulously, maintaining an organized record of maintenance activities and providing detailed reports.
- Track and control labor and material costs; manage expenses against budgets accurately.
- Support the arena’s conversion team during event setups, ensuring HVAC and supporting systems are configured correctly for various events.
- Supervise third-party technicians and contractors, leading maintenance and repair activities to industry standards.
- Oversee and log compliance with Hazardous Materials Management Plan (HMMP) and Air Resource Board regulations, maintaining strict adherence to environmental laws.
- Secure all tools, equipment, and materials to prevent loss, misuse, or theft, maintaining accountability.
- Report equipment issues, safety hazards, and system failures with immediacy, ensuring management is consistently informed.
- Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and scrubbing machines safely and effectively.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to maintain maximum operational efficiency and safety.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required; vocational training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related fields preferred.
- 1-3 years of proven experience in HVAC maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair—experience supervising others is a plus.
- HVAC license or certification preferred.
- Candidates must possess or obtain prior to employment:
- Universal Refrigerant License
- Electrical or other relevant industry certifications/licenses
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Deep understanding of HVAC systems, electrical work, plumbing, and refrigeration maintenance.
- Knowledge of HMMP and Air Resource Board compliance standards.
- Ability to enforce safety protocols rigorously and adhere to OSHA and other regulatory standards.
- Strong organizational skills—tracking, documenting, and reporting all activities with precision.
- Capable of working in physically demanding situations, including heights, confined spaces, and adverse environments.
- Effective communication and leadership skills, capable of supervising third-party staff and working with management and vendors.
Physical Requirements:
- Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and moving heavy equipment.
- Work in various environmental conditions—loud, hot, cold, confined spaces, and heights—while maintaining safety.
- Work in confined spaces and at heights with proper PPE.
