Position Summary: Sells the Ontario Convention Center, for events as defined under Account Responsibility. Actively involved in the community to prospect for new business.
Account Responsibility: Convention Center only business for all events that anticipate 500 people or less; all Catering events regardless of attendance with less than 150 room nights.
Essential Functions:
- Identifies organizations within assigned market segment, which can be potential customers of the Convention Center. Match customer requirements with OCC and the City of Ontario capabilities.
- Achieve 100% of all sales/booking and sales/activity goals.
- Documents, thoroughly, information relating to contacts and needs of clients or prospective clients. Assures such files and database are properly organized and kept up to date using the department's filing procedures.
- Solicits and sells the Center via telephone, letters, and personal contacts.
- Conducts site tours of the Center as required. Entertains clients as appropriate.
- Stimulates the constant improvement of selling methods and productivity.
- Prepares and delivers written and oral sales presentations to individuals and/or groups as appropriate.
- Negotiates and prepares contracts outlining all space leased and rental rates.
- Maintains a positive and professional image and builds an effective rapport with clients or prospective clients.
- Develops and maintains an accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of the capabilities of the Center and effectively uses this knowledge as a sales tool.
- Develops and maintains an accurate, up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of the competition in terms of accessibility, services, meeting rooms available, etc. Effectively uses this information to accentuate the positive features and advantages of the Center as a destination versus other alternatives.
- Follows up with contacts and leads in a timely manner.
- Compose letters and proposals.
- Attend local industry meetings and seminars as required.
- Attend local tradeshow and industry events as required.
- Assist in the planning and execution of promotional events, and special projects.
- Contribute to the overall sales objectives of the Center by achieving goals set forth by the VP of Sales
- Assists on special assignments as required by VP sales.
Experience/Training/Education:
Required:
Two years experience with a hotel, or convention center. Bachelor's Degree in Hotel, Marketing and/or Business Administration, or closely related field. Equivalent in directly related work experience may be substituted. Have a proven record of accomplishment of successful meeting and convention selling, as well as a steady progression of increased responsibilities.
License/Certificate:
Valid California Driver License
Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
Knowledge of:
- Methods of preparing and presenting effective sales presentations.
- Marketing principles and public relations
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Maintain a professional image.
- Tactfully interact with staff, clients, the general public, and the hospitality community.
- Handle multiple priorities simultaneously
Skill to:
- Operate modern office equipment, including but not limit to computer, fax, phone, and copy machine.
- Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office.
- Operate a motor vehicle.
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
Tasks are performed with moderate supervision without assistance for 40% of the workday; pushing and pulling doors open, lifting, stooping, bending and lifting at least 50 lbs. Walking for long distances for more than 50% of workday. This position may require work inside or outside of the building, as needed by events.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours. Employees may be scheduled to work until 12:00am or later. Must be able to pass the background.
