Managed by Legends Global, the Wilmington Convention Center – the largest convention center on the North Carolina coast – is a one-of-a-kind downtown waterfront venue with flexible, LEED-certified spaces, modern amenities, and a dedicated team for logistics, catering, and AV.
THE ROLE
The Catering Sales Manager is responsible for soliciting catering business for the Wilmington Convention Center (WCC), developing food and beverage proposals, updating and enhancing the catering menu, preparing Banquet Event Orders (BEO’s), and communicating client requirements clearly and accurately to the Food & Beverage team and other internal departments to support successful event execution and a strong guest experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Actively solicit food and beverage business for booked events and work with clients across assigned markets to identify food and beverage needs, menu selections, service preferences, and event-specific requirements.
- Conduct site tours, walkthroughs, presentations, and planning meetings; engage prospective and repeat clients both onsite and offsite; and prepare client correspondence, catering proposals, menu estimates, and related pricing information.
- Prepare Banquet Event Orders to communicate client requirements, event timelines, guarantees, setup details, and menu information and related event documents for assigned food and beverage functions clearly to the Food & Beverage department and other internal teams. Obtain client approvals and distribute final details to internal departments in a timely manner.
- Update and maintain the catering menu to reflect current offerings, pricing, trends, and operational needs. Monitor industry trends and competitor activity to maintain a competitive edge. Recommend and develop creative food and beverage options that enhance the guest experience and support sales efforts.
- Coordinate and conduct tastings as needed for clients and key food and beverage events.
- Consult and collaborate with internal departments as needed to align event details, optimize the guest experience, and achieve overall business objectives.
- Participate in weekly internal meetings to communicate updates and support coordination across departments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date account and event records within the online booking system, ensuring proper documentation is recorded and information is current; track catering activity and revenue data to support forecasting, budget development, and ongoing budget monitoring.
- Foster collaborative relationships with the CVB, hotels, clients, and industry/community partners and attend select networking/industry events as assigned.
- Abide by approved pricing guidelines, booking policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure accuracy, professionalism, and highest level of customer service in all communications, interactions and work product.
- Participate in team events and activities.
- Other duties assigned by the Food and Beverage Director.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is not directly responsible for the supervision of staff, however, you may be asked to act as the Manager on Duty (MOD) as event and program supervision is required.

Education and/or Experience
- A minimum of an associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- A minimum of 2 years related sales experience, with a complete understanding of marketing principles and a working knowledge of the food and beverage industry.
Skills And Abilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, take initiative, and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to develop and apply effective sales strategies and techniques.
- Able to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff in a team-oriented environment.

Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Ability to learn and effectively perform duties utilizing industry software programs; Momentus Elite or similar booking/CRM a plus.
Other Qualifications
- Duties may require the ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Professional appearance required as a representative of the Wilmington Convention Center.
- Valid driver’s license given travel responsibilities.
