Position Summary
The Palm Beach North Athletic Foundation seeks an Ice Maintenance & Facility Operations Manager for the new Palm Beach Gardens Ice Arena, a $50+ million, 130,000 sq. ft., twin-sheet facility in Palm Beach Gardens Florida. This role is responsible for managing all ice operations, facility maintenance, safety, and cleanliness, ensuring the highest standards of ice quality. Key duties include operating ice resurfacing equipment, preventative maintenance, supporting building systems, and assisting with facility operations and staff supervision. Strong experience in ice resurfacing and arena maintenance is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Ice & Facility Operations
  • Operate, drive, and maintain ice resurfacing machines and ice surfaces to high-performance standards, including performing regular edging, scraping, patching, and resurfacing.
  • Conduct inspections of ice conditions and equipment performance.
  • Directs and actively participates in decision-making across all areas of Facility Operations.
  • Oversees the cleanliness of the facilities and equipment in all areas of the building, including back of house and public areas.

Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate logs, recordkeeping, and schedules for all ice maintenance, resurfacer maintenance, repairs, compressors, ice depths, and other machinery and equipment.
  • Develops standard operating procedures (SOPs) for operational functions of the facility, including ice maintenance, housekeeping, and general repairs. 
  • Regularly evaluate facility equipment (resurfacers, compressors, HVAC), promptly report all deficiencies, and maintain accurate reports including inventory, damage, and activity logs.

Maintenance & Repairs
  • Perform general building maintenance including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry. 
  • Respond to equipment failures and facility emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Selects, contracts with, and manages  third-party service providers by enforcing the agreed-upon scope of services within the various signed service agreements (i. e., pest control, waste management, HVAC maintenance, housekeeping, etc.).
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment and systems as scheduled in a safe and professional manner. 
  • Regularly inspects all areas of the building, including common areas, bathrooms, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and building exterior for damage and repair, and corrects as needed.
  • Operate within established maintenance and operational budgets.

Leadership & Supervision
  • Develops and supervises ice technicians and cleaning staff including hiring, scheduling, career development, managing work orders, and direction of daily activities.
  • Oversee execution of facility maintenance standards and daily tasks.
  • Participates in and actively contributes to all staff and management meetings.
  • Serves as Manager-on-Duty as required.

Safety & Compliance
  • Ensures all programs and procedures are in place to maintain security, safety and enjoyment of clients, guests and employees on a daily basis.
  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies or hazardous conditions.
  • Ensure safe operation of all machinery and equipment.


Experience Requirements & Key Essential Skills
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in facility arena operations and ice maintenance.
  • Certified Ice Technician (CIT) certification (U.S. Ice Rinks or equivalent) required.
  • Previous supervisory experience, including staff training and performance management.
  • Expert understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems used in rink operations.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and train staff on ice resurfacers and related equipment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ice installation, removal, and maintenance standards.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and building systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety practices, first aid, and public facility safety standards, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and organizational safety standards.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical skills, reliability, and proven capacity to operate effectively both as an individual contributor and within a collaborative team setting.
  • Ability to work a demanding schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Competency in managing responsibilities during high-pressure, high-noise game and event environments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Docs.

  • Ability to stand, walk, and work in cold environments for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery safely
  • Ability to perform physical labor and maintenance tasks
