Position Purpose

The Director, Social Media leads the USL’s Social Media department. Developing and executing the organization’s social media strategy, the Director, Social Media oversees the management of the social channels, creation of social content, platform partnerships, and ecosystem-wide social media support. This position plays a vital role in the overall strategic marketing operations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for social media and fan engagement and will have an understanding of soccer culture in North America.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Develop, lead, and execute the USL’s social media strategy to grow and engage a passionate fan base, build the USL brand, and drive business growth.
Create and maintain a comprehensive content calendar across the full suite of USL league social channels to engage fans via match coverage, news moments, big events, and broad marketing and commercial partnership campaigns.
Manage and lead the USL HQ Social Media team, including full-time staff and freelancers, and create a culture of creativity, dedication, and action.
Create and post content on USL league social channels.
Monitor social engagement and community sentiment through active “listening” across multiple social platforms.
Work with USL clubs to provide support for club social campaigns, share insights and best practices, and partner on organization-wide social media marketing initiatives.
Coordinate with the digital analytics team on reporting of social media KPIs and insights to measure campaign effectiveness, uncover actionable insights, and identify areas of opportunity.
Establish and manage strong relationships with the social platforms to unlock collaboration opportunities, learn best practices, and fast-track crisis elevation (e.g., resolving a hacked account).
Work cross-departmentally to support broad initiatives through social media, including partner activations, club servicing, and communications opportunities.
Identify opportunities, trends, and features within the social media space. Stay up to speed on consumer insights, trends, and social media and global marketing strategies to produce successful and integrated campaigns.
Establish, track, and assure adherence to budgets, launch schedules, campaigns, and marketing objectives.
Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience/combined education.
6-8 years of professional work experience in social media and/or digital content.
Experience with social media management tools such as Tweetdeck, Facebook Business Manager, Hootsuite, etc.
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Photoshop.
Experience managing successful social media and content campaigns.
A strong knowledge and passion for soccer.
Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish a bonus.
Ability to work well within tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members, executives, member clubs, and external partners.
Ability to work independently in a multi-faceted, fast, fluid, and deadline-driven environment.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Ability to work as business needs require which may include long days, evenings, weekends, occasional holidays, and travel if / when necessary.
Must have U.S. work authorization.
