Position Purpose:
The North Carolina Football Club, the parent organization of the North Carolina Courage (first-division women’s pro soccer team playing in the NWSL) and North Carolina FC (third-division men’s pro soccer team playing in USL League One), is seeking a senior human resources executive to (i) lead its organizational culture, diversity, inclusivity and growth initiatives, and (ii) handle its traditional HR responsibilities of compensation, benefits and performance management.  Reporting to the company’s President, this role would be the architect of the company’s talent strategy and corporate-culture initiatives. The successful candidate’s experience would align with the responsibilities and requirements below.

Reports to: President

  • Provide strategy and oversight of the administration of our compensation, benefits, and HR system.
  • Lead the handling of complex employee-relations issues.
  • Help advise the executive team on relevant compliance and employment law and introduce best practices to protect the organization.
  • Develop and implement effective ongoing training and wellness programs for employees, players, and coaches.
  • Harness the existing culture and values when building out internal people-related policies, while devising new ways to reinforce and improve upon the existing culture.
  • Actively develop and implement ways to integrate players and technical staff with front-office staff.
  • Develop and implement ways to improve the overall employee experience and measure employee satisfaction.
  • Manage talent initiatives from recruiting and onboarding to employee retention and offboarding.
  • Evaluate and improve systems for evaluating performance and providing feedback (e.g., implement new 360-degree annual employee reviews).
  • Evaluate and manage all third-party HR vendors and partners (e.g., ADP PEO).
  • Serve as an active member of the organization’s Leadership Team.
  • Serve as the executive chair of the organization’s DE&I Taskforce.
  • Bring a deep understanding of recruiting tactics/metrics.
  • Help develop career paths, promotion reviews, compensation benchmarking, and compensation cycles.

  • Help achieve company-wide consistency in bonuses, promotions, raises, and leadership development.
  • Identify and measure organizational KPIs and targets for the HR function.

  • More than 5 years of experience in an executive HR position.
  • Experience leading an HR department in a complex organization.
  • Background in sports, media or entertainment is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. employment law and associated best practices.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
