ABOUT THIS POSITION
The data analytics intern will be expected to use data analysis and statistical skills to help the Union identify business opportunities. Projects will focus primarily on analyzing customer data and ticket sales. This position will be expected to complete 2-3 medium to large scale projects over the summer with an emphasis on generating revenue and developing models that the organization can use moving forward.

Internships with Philadelphia Union will provide qualified interns with an assortment of valuable learning experiences and exposure to all facets of a professional soccer team’s front office. Interns will be asked to work nights and weekends. 

POTENTIAL PROJECTS (could include but not limited to any of the following):
Dynamic Pricing Model
  • Which factors influence a given match’s demand for tickets?
  • Pertinent factors could include inventory, weather, secondary market sales, sales velocity, team performance, opponent, day of the week, leverage of the game, seasonal outcome uncertainty, schedule packing (games past 7/10/14 days), primetime packing, and any other factors the candidate feels would impact demand for match tickets.
  • This model will help determine dynamic single game pricing throughout the season.
Data Mining
  • Which factors influence a customer to buy a ticket?
  • Find factors that most strongly correlate with a propensity to buy the following categories of tickets: 
    • Single match 
    • Season tickets 
    • Group tickets 
  • The goal of this project is to build targeted niche audiences that have a higher propensity of converting.
Rate Card Assessment
  • Help the Corporate Partnerships team build a data-driven rate card.
  • Determine the Union’s most valuable sponsorship assets and help determine the appropriate price points for them using past deals, market research, and other factors.
  • Find undervalued assets to help the team bolster revenue from existing deals.
  • Find new assets to sell as part of sponsorship deals.
Reporting Improvements
  • Learn about and engage with the different reports generated and/or used by the Data Analytics team.
  • Assist with report automation. We are working to remove as many manual steps from the reporting process as possible.
  • Additionally, propose improvements to the reports’ efficiency, design, and ability to tell a story. 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Background in statistics, quantitative analysis, or other pertinent areas
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with SAS, Tableau, or other analytics software
  • Ability to translate complex analysis projects into easily understood reports or summaries
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends
