Facility Operations/Event Staff: Grounds Crew/Turf Management
BACKGROUND:
In December 2017 Nashville was named the 24th team in Major League Soccer.  Nashville Soccer Club began play in Major League Soccer in 2020 at Nissan Stadium before moving into a new soccer-specific stadium in 2022.
 
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Second Assistant of Grounds will be responsible for assisting the First Assistant of Grounds and Head Groundskeeper with the necessary maintenance of the Nashville Soccer Club Stadium playing surface. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with maintenance of stadium field used for various events, including, but not limited to, Nashville SC’s home matches, concerts, football games and rugby matches.
  • Work with First Assistance of Grounds on preventive maintenance program for the various pieces of equipment used at the stadium, and ensure all equipment remains in working and operational condition.
  • Keep up-to-date and accurate records of chemical applications (if/as needed).
  • Follow proper use of equipment, tools, chemicals, and their applications.
  • Assist in making precise and timely decisions that affect field conditions.
  • Consistently monitor weather conditions and make proactive decisions to meet safety and field maintenance standards.
  • Maintain daily field maintenance and make suggestions for any improvements as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • None
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, or Plant Science preferred.
  • Two- or three-years relevant work experience in maintaining professional quality sports fields
  • Working knowledge of field construction and maintenance pertaining to irrigation, drainage, rootzone, artificial turf, and grow lights.
  • Experience working with transition zone turfgrass species preferred.
  • Working knowledge of FIFA and MLS rules and regulations preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a Tennessee pesticide applicators license
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, knowledge of current technologies and commitment to remain up to date with industry best practices
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and deadline driven.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Hours are variable and will include early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays in addition to the traditional Monday through Friday hours.
  • Ability to work in various degrees of outdoor weather conditions, including but not limited to, extreme heat and cold or rain.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds of weight frequently throughout assigned workday.
  • Ability to work in various positions, including but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.
  • Qualified Promise Zone residents given priority treatment.
