 Chicago Fire FC is Chicago’s ambassador to the global sport of football. Founded in 1997, and competing in Major League Soccer, Chicago Fire won its first championship in its debut season and was foundational in the careers of several current MLS coaches and players, as well as International and UEFA Champions League coaches.

Job Overview:
Chicago Fire Football Club is seeking a dedicated Data Scientist to join our team! The Data Scientist will provide a detailed pre- and post-match analysis for direct use by the First Team Manager and coaching staff. This individual will also be responsible for collaboration with all other staff to continually enhance the standards of performance.



Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead the creation of automated scripts and reports to enhance delivery of information and efficiency of workflows
  • Develop and explore custom metrics and visualizations that fit the clubs game model and ideas to assist in all areas of sport performance (i.e. preparation, tracking, prediction)
  • Ensure all data process are efficient, reliable and in line with the club standards and time frames
  • In collaboration with Performance Analysts & Technical Staffs, contribute to the design and delivery of all performance analysis support, including (but not limited to) training, pre-match, in-game, post-match, individual player support, scouting/player monitoring, team tracking
  • Research and review work from other professionals in the analytics field to generate ideas for our processes and workflows
  • Explore new datasets and ideas in the area to consider for practical use
  • Develop strong working relationships across the multi-disciplinary team, sharing and informing best practice
  • Support in developing internal and external research in this area
  • Ensure all data & video is collected and uploaded to all required staff and players in line with club standards and time frames
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of all performance analysis support, including (but not limited to) training, pre-match, in-game, post-match, individual player support, scouting/player monitoring, team tracking
  • Consolidate and create content to be used for teaching materials based on team principles and style of play
  • Develop strong working relationships across the multi-disciplinary team, sharing and informing best practice
  • Stay up to date on latest performance analysis research/technology and help support the development of other colleagues

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Business Analytics, Physical Sciences, Statistics, or related discipline
  • Expertise in at least one statistical programming language such as R (dplyr) or Python (pandas)
  • Advanced understanding of statistics and machine learning modeling techniques through coursework or professional experience
  • Proficient in SQL
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with players and coaches. 
  • Experience of pre- and post-match analysis in professional sport environment. 
  • Proven track record of establishing and delivering a robust performance analysis system around data collection, data management and data dissemination
  • Excellent analytical and verbal communication skills – the ability to convey the ‘story’ from the data
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the game of soccer (tactics, principles of play, modern trends) and the overall landscape in the U.S.

  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks based on impact
