US Equestrian seeks a Senior Equestrian Compliance Manager to assist in managing the compliance functions of the organization. Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Senior Compliance Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing and managing the Compliance Program with specific emphasis on competition inspection/evaluation and competition standards compliance/enforcement. The Director reviews and follows up on reports from USEF licensed competitions regarding competition standards and safety. He or she also communicates any concerns or deficiencies to competition management, so that they have the opportunity to improve, and follows through with a supplemental assessment to ensure that improvements have been completed. The collaborative review and improvement process is managed every step of the way by the Senior Compliance Manager. He or she works to educate members on the value of USEF rules and competition standards while working to improve the safety and welfare of human and equine athletes. He or she also focuses on adherence to policies and procedures, providing accurate interpretation of rules and standards, and evaluating existing systems while putting forward new ideas to improve them. Duties include, but are not limited to:

ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Developing, maintaining and revising policies and procedures for the general operation of the Compliance Program and its related activities, subject to the CEO approval.
  • Overseeing and monitoring the implementation of the Compliance Program.
  • Managing Compliance department staff. 
  • Educating internal and external stakeholders on the mission of the Compliance department and its role within the organization.
  • Communicating openly with competition management, officials, and membership regarding issues that have been reported or observed at a competition and expectations for improvements, as appropriate.  
  • Developing an annual compliance work plan in conjunction with the CEO.
  • Reporting on a regular basis on the progress of the Compliance program.
Review and update policies and procedures as directed by the CEO and/or General Counsel. 

Contracted Compliance Representatives 
  • Manage contracts for contracted compliance representatives 
  • Arrange logistics for contracted compliance representatives within their scope of work 
Manage and maintain the annual budget for contracted compliance representatives

Competition Site Inspections
  • Travel to and inspect competition venues for compliance with competition standards
  •  Prepare reports following competition site inspections
Assist with the development and implementation of competition standards 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION - Bachelor’s degree preferred, advanced degree strongly preferred. 
EXPERIENCE - Three to five years of professional experience in the equine industry is required.  More specific experience with equestrian competitions, knowledge of USEF rules, and regulatory or paralegal work experience is preferred. 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Must have a high level of interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy to handle sensitive and confidential situations.  Additionally, the applicant must be able to assess and prioritize projects and issues within the broader mission of the organization.  Ability to adapt and problem-solve with minimal oversight while interacting with members in the field.  Must be proficient in the use of the Internet and Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. Approximately 40% travel, and extended hours of availability, including evenings and weekends, is required. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to move safely and effectively around competition grounds while walking over variable terrain during unpredictable weather conditions for extended periods.
