Job Summary:

US Equestrian seeks a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the Jumping Department.  Reporting directly to the Managing Director (MD) of Jumping, the Director of Jumping Development Programs will lead on the Development Programs and Initiatives for Youth, U25 and Development. The Director will manage all aspects of the Jumping Development Programs, which seek to identify talented athletes and horses and assist with their development to support the continued success of the U.S. Equestrian Team.  This role will work under the close supervision of the MD and in coordination with the Youth Chef d’Equipe and Assistant Chef d’Equipe to develop and implement opportunities that align with this mission along with liaising with the USHJA on Pathway Programs.

The Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the cycle of fielding Youth and Development Nations Cup Teams which involves developing and collecting applications, providing competition results analysis to the Chef d’Equipe, liaising with Committees for selection, and making arrangements for the selected athletes and horses.  The Director will take the lead on gathering and coordinating all logistical data, including entries, housing, accreditation and transportation.  This role also involves a strong understanding of FEI Rules and Regulations and the ability to convey the differences between USEF and FEI requirements to athletes, parents and trainers.  This will require effective communication skills with a variety of individuals externally as well as internally with various USEF Departments. The Director will also have the opportunity to attend competitions to serve as Team Leader at Youth and Development Nations Cups.

The Director will be the primary lead for the Championships Programs that cover Youth and U25 including North American Young Riders, U25 National Championship, Prix des States, Talent Search and Pony Jumper Championship.  This role involves liaising with the Championship Organizers, working with the USHJA in developing selection criteria, managing ranking lists/standings and applications.  The Director will attend the Championships and serve as the USEF Liaison.

In addition, the Development Program includes an education component that is being developed.  The Director will work closely with the MD and Youth and Assistant Chef d’Equipes in developing the curriculum and overall delivery of the training sessions/clinics/orientation sessions.  The Development Program is ever-evolving and growing both domestically and abroad, and will require hands-on management.

The Director should be comfortable managing projects independently and able to effectively analyze and synthesize data in a fast-paced environment.  This role also requires frequent clear and concise communication to both internal and external stakeholders and across a variety of channels.  In this respect, the Director must be a conscientious representative of not only US Equestrian but of the U.S., and be able to develop effective working relationships with these parties.

This position will be located in either Lexington, KY or Gladstone, NJ--to be confirmed depending on the candidate selected.

Job Specifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.  Six years of directly related experience may substitute for Bachelor’s degree.

At least two years of professional work experience required, preferably in a sport environment.  Experience in an FEI equestrian discipline highly preferred, particularly in Jumping.  Experience in a management and leadership position preferred.

Must be proficient in MS Office programs such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.  Must have excellent attention to detail and an excellent sense of planning and organization.  Must display initiative and be a self-starter.  Must have the ability to: collaborate and communicate effectively amongst both internal and external groups, prioritize and deal with the unexpected, maintain a high level of performance in stressful situations, and remain well organized and effectual within changing environments.

This role will involve some physical activity such as lifting boxes and equipment as well as involve weekend work and travel within the USA and abroad [approximately 30% travel].
