General Summary
The North American Head of Finance is responsible for managing and directing the North American regional finance team. The North American regional finance team is responsible for steering the finances of the North American region including ensuring that budgets are properly prepared and adhered to, forecasts are prepared timely and accurately, and trends and issues are timely identified and communicated. This team is also responsible for supporting the operations, marketing, sales, merchandise and other functions in the region by providing data-based insights into each business unit across all verticals (triathlon, running, mountain biking, etc.). Additionally, the North American Head of Finance will support the corporate finance team in its analysis of the company as well as be responsible for all financial reporting and compliance functions in the region. The Regional Head of Finance will provide support for all FP&A initiatives to promote transparency and visibility to the company’s internal and external stakeholders. This is a highly visible position in our largest region that will interact with all levels of management (including C-Level executives).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • The role reports to both the global Chief Financial Officer and regional Managing Director
  • Manage and mentor team of 2 Financial and Senior Financial Analysts
  • Work as a part of the regional leadership team to set the strategy and objectives
  • In conjunction with the Regional MD, set annual goals and budgets related to the region. Prepare an annual budget for the region, by coordinating with other departmental heads and ensuring overall alignment with company goals
  • Contribute to the annual five-year strategic planning exercise managed by corporate
  • Develop, analyze and maintain KPI’s for all profit centers; highlighting trends, analyzing causation and identifying potential areas for cost savings or material improvements
  • Assist with the development of financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives
  • Conduct 30- 60- and 90-day reviews of each event in the region with Operations team to understand monthly variances and how they affect future forecasts
  • Complete month-end variance analyses for all overhead departments. Conduct monthly departmental meetings and prepare materials to assist in understanding monthly variances and how they affect future forecasts
  • Implement processes, roll out protocols for annual budgets and maintenance of rolling monthly forecasts
  • Prepare and deliver periodic MD&A reporting and related materials in accordance with the monthly close and reporting calendars
  • Develop improved sales reporting/forecasting and implementation of various KPI reporting
  • Produce, analyze and maintain profitability reporting for Merchandise operations (Event Retail and eCommerce)
  • Ensure that regional support is provided to corporate office with respect to cash forecasting and analysis
  • Support Accounting with monthly journal entries to correct and maintain proper allocations between business units
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations to the Senior Management Team
  • Produce ad-hoc reporting and analyses as needed; other duties as assigned
  • Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas
Job Requirements
Education and Work Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting, Business or a related field
  • Minimum ten (10) years financial analysis experience
  • Previous experience in operational-supporting finance roles a must
  • Previous experience using MIS or other technology platform a plus
  • Experience interacting with and supporting executive management 
  • Prior experience in leading a finance team is essential
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Strong sense of urgency with a positive can-do attitude
  • Must possess robust Microsoft Excel skills including experience in financial modeling
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to commit to and meet competing deadlines
  • Must possess a keen attention to detail given the fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work with confidential information in a professional manner
  • Ability to take initiative and anticipate needs
  • Must be hands-on, able to multi-task, and have strong time-management skills
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in identifying and analyzing problems, and developing solutions
  • Must be a team player and demonstrate ability to work with all departments in a professional, service-oriented manner. FP&A considers all departments and stakeholders as Customers
  • Strong technology skills; including experience in Excel (must have very strong skills) and PowerPoint, and other database applications a plus (e.g., PowerBI, Navision, SharePoint etc.)
  • Basic knowledge and/or experience with US GAAP and/or IFRS accounting standards
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills; including presentation skills
