General Summary
The Indirect Tax Manager (ITM) is responsible for managing a professional tax team of currently 4 indirect tax accountants and managing the preparation and filing of various indirect taxes in the US and in our foreign jurisdictions. This currently includes SALT in 34 states and foreign indirect taxes (VAT/GST/HST in 23 countries.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:

• Manage the current indirect tax team and provide appropriate review and oversight
• Ensure indirect tax returns and payments are timely filed/paid for all the domestic and foreign jurisdictions that the company operates, which will include working with local tax advisors that do the filings/payments in certain foreign jurisdictions
• Ensure appropriate indirect tax compliance which may include research and reporting (including ESL and Intrastat) covering USA and foreign jurisdictions
• Maintain a tax calendar to monitor status of all filings and payments and timely communicate all late filings/payments to the Tax Director
• Review all indirect tax notices, resolve and respond to local tax authorities accordingly
• Liaise with tax advisors regarding indirect tax matters as necessary
• Address any indirect tax audit questions and facilitate answers to tax advisors as necessary
• Perform tax research as necessary to ensure appropriate sales tax rates are being charged appropriately on various revenue streams in the US, including but not limited to event registrations, sponsorships, merchandise and expo
• Review and process all indirect tax journal entries prepared by the indirect tax accountants
• Review tax balance sheet account reconciliations for applicable accounts and ensure accounts are reconciled timely and reconciling items are resolved timely
• Manage all US local business licenses prepared by tax accountants and ensure filed and paid timely
• Assist with implementation of new tax policies, strategies and procedures and other cross-functional initiatives
• Work closely with Treasury team on cash forecasting of indirect tax payments
• Assist with process improvement initiatives over the indirect tax function
• Assist with miscellaneous projects as requested

Job Requirements

Education and work experience:
• Four-year degree in accounting or tax. 
• CPA a plus
• GPA 3.5 or higher
• Indirect tax reporting experience with a company that operates in multi-jurisdictions (North America, EMEA & Asia Pacific preferred)
• At least 6 years of relevant indirect tax experience with 3+ year of supervisory experience

Required skills and knowledge:
• Proven leader in managing a team 
• Experience in a high volume, complex global company that operates in multiple currencies
• Proficiency in tax research
• Knowledge of indirect tax systems (Sales Tax/VAT/GST/HST).  
• Strong accounting background 
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal 
• Self-motivated; able to work independently 
• Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal communication.
• Excellent judgment and discretion; can recognize and elevate problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine issues.
• Able to remain calm and professional in stressful situations; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
• Detail-oriented and works effectively under pressure while meeting applicable deadlines
